Great campground with some good and quite large sites. As others mentioned it's a 'first come, first serve' campground, so make sure you arrive pretty early. Anytime before 10 AM should be fine. Easy self check-in, pretty clean flush toilets and very close to desert view tower (worth visiting at sunrise!). There's a gas station around the corner where you can also buy firewood and such (it's not cheap, though). It's a bit of a drive — with beautiful views — to Grand Canyon village but we actually enjoyed that. Spotted lots of moose on the way and took a gazillion photos ;) I've stayed at both campgrounds (also Mather campground in the village) and I actually think I prefer Desert View.

Very nice campground. It is first come, first serve, so come early (in the beginning of August I recommend to come between 8-10am) if you want to get spot. Do not even bother to come in the evening. There are no showers, but restrooms were clean. You will be in walking distance from the rim, so get up early and watch the sunrise. And the stars you will see there in the night...

We loved this place. Self check-in was super simple. We arrived early on a Sunday with no issues of finding a spot. The park rangers are friendly and gave us any info we needed. There were toilets and access to water as well.

We arrived 1130 on a Saturday (9/16) and the campground was full, so disappointed at first when the Ranger suggested for us to ask the people at the sites if we could set up our tent on their lot. The first group we asked were so courtesies & welcoming. They allow 6 people or 2 cars at a campsite. We stayed at the site right next to the bathrooms. There are no Showers but clean drinking water & a large sink for dishes. At $12 a night this couldn't be easier! Will definitely recommend staying here to get off the grid away from all the RVs and tourism.

First come first serve camping. Fills up pretty quickly, don't depend on am open spot if you are arriving in the evening Not much privacy, but decent distance between campus for a busy campground. Dish washing station behind restrooms. No showers.
