Next Generation Delicatessen

Story

DGS is a next generation delicatessen.

The kitchen takes inspiration from the classic delicatessen but pushes the cuisine in a new and exciting direction. DGS offers house cured and smoked pastrami and corned beef, duck fat matzo balls, smoked salmon, house brined pickles and more.

DGS brines, cures, smokes, slices and pickles daily in house using only the finest ingredients from our trusted farmers and purveyors.

Beverage Director Brian Zipin has crafted a beer, wine and cocktail menu amplifying the bold flavors of the delicatessen.

The hostess today was not exceptionally friendly and did not even crack a smile. Unfortunate. I ordered the Andrea sandwich to go. The sandwich itself wasn't bad, but the bread should have been toasted or toasted more. I requested the coleslaw on the side instead of on the sandwich. It lacked a tremendous amount of flavor and freshness. For $15.00, I doubt, I'll rush back within the month. However, I will give it another try by possibly dining in at a later date.

Food isn't that great, especially for the price you pay. Their selection is pretty good though, and they have some interesting choices. Portions are also a little small considering how much you're paying.

Outstanding food. Service not always super friendly but effective. Some standouts are the smoked white fish salad, pickles, chipped liver, rye bread. My pastrami was not quite stuffed and the meat could have been a little more tender. On another visit the pastrami was soft and outstanding with the perfect snout of fat. Definitely worth a gamble because overall the food is great. Mixed drinks were a little on the weak side so stick to wine or beer. Hands down the best Jewish style restaurant in the district. (take it from a Philly guy with relatives from NYC).

The food tasted horrible I came with my friends an hour ago before Brunch ended but we had to wait so long that Brunch ended so we couldn't eat what we came to eat. Please people do not waste your time and money here.

Had breakfast. Both the food and service were very good. The menu is a bit limited and expensive but otherwise a great experience.
