Dodson’s Jewelers has been delighting customers since 1887, the oldest still operating Spokane business.
The Dodson Story
George R. Dodson, a 26-year-old jeweler and engraver from Illinois, arrived in Spokane Falls, Washington Territory, and established what was to become the oldest family-owned jewelry store in the Pacific Northwest.
Dodson’s is a family tradition that now spans four generations. George passed the business on to his son-in-law, John Penn Fix, Sr., who continued Dodson’s growth from the mid-1920s to the 1950s. His son John Penn Fix, Jr., expanded the company from one store to five from the 1960s to the 1980s. He in turn passed the business on to his sons, Penn and Barney Fix, who in the 1990s moved Dodson’s away from the branch store concept and back to its roots as a single showroom.
