I am a criminal defense attorney and I go to almost every courthouse in southern California at least once every couple of years. I always like to put in a plug for the people who work there, it's not their fault that the budget has been slashed, and most of the people they deal with have some kind of issue or another. That said, Downey is pretty bad, one step up from the jail/insane asylum style all tile east la courthouse. It's a conservative jurisdiction, some judges won't clear misdemeanor warrants without the client being present.

I'm seeing a lot of one stars for not answering but I would not know since I did not call but I would say the court is fair and when you go that is when they can answer your questions

Well so far the Judges here, at this courthouse have been completely fair with me.

The worst! If I could give zero stars I would. The phone lines just repeat the same message over and over until they disconnect you. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I have tried calling repeatedly for over 9 days and the same happens every time. You drive all the way there because you can't get a human on the phone line and you see....a whole lot of lazy people socializing while lines and lines of people wait. That's government employees for you. They wonder where the stereotype comes from.

The people in the windows on the criminal line are terrible, both the fat guy with the glasses and the fat black lady just chit chat the whole time even when you get called up to the window. They're very rude. The fat guy with the glasses pretended not to talk Spanish and when I left and he called up a hot chick in a dress all of a sudden he started talking Spanish, all they do is waste time. They don't help you at all and you have to tell them exactly what to do and I'm surprised they even know how to look up your name, seriously tho! This isn't a joke. I feel bad for all the good honest people that have to put up with them, the security guards will help you out beter if you have any questions on your payments or court dates etc..
