Story

Eagle Island State Park is a state park of Idaho, USA, providing day-use recreational facilities near Boise. The park is 8mi west of the state capital on the outskirts of the city of Eagle. Facilities include a swimming beach, a picnic area, more than 5mi of equestrian trails, and a water slide. Eagle Island State Park is bordered on the north and south by two forks of the Boise River. A Sportsman's Access area offers excellent fishing opportunities along the river.HistoryThe park was created in 1977 when the Idaho Department of Correction turned over the land that had been previously used for the Eagle Island Prison Farm to the Idaho Department of Lands. In response to a poll concerning disposition of the land in the local newspaper, a year later the Land Board voted to set aside the property to be managed as Eagle Island State Park.FutureDuring his 2006 State of the State Address, Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne declared his vision of the park's future:"Eagle Island State Park along the Boise River, with our rapid population growth, will become as valuable to the Treasure Valley as Central Park is to New York City. But unless we make the investment, Eagle Island’s potential will not be realized. My proposal adds needed improvements: campgrounds, equestrian trails, and more greenbelt along the Boise River."RecreationFacilities include flush toilets, group shelters, and a water slide. Non-motorized boating is allowed. Available activities include horseshoes, picnicking, swimming, volleyball, fishing, a 9-hole disc golf course, and a Zip line.

Had a lot of fun at the snow tubing. There were lots of people and yet the waits weren't too long. How great is that. Sure, there were a few knucklehead line breakers but nothing beyond what you'd find in any 100+ group of people. The staff was amazing. This one gal hurt her shoulder; you could tell she was really trying to push through it. Her co-workers stepped up and all gave a hand to help her out and keep the fun going.

Great place, few folks fill out an pay like they should. No state park staff, the contractor & their staff you should try to limit your contact with. If at all possible, do not visit this park alone. You want to have someone with you if you have contact with the staff in the open office Bldg. I didn't February 14th an within two hours, 2 local Deputy Sheriff Officers made contact with myself from a complaint filled by the contractor's staff about the way this Disabled American Veteran talks English. I departed this state park as soon as law enforcement released me. I will not be in this park again alone. Marine PDD JD

Loved the snow sled setup. Escalator style ramp to get to the top, tubes included. What a great way to spend a 40 degree winter day.
