In the winter months, this is my default place to go snowshoeing. The hiking trail up to the top of mt Evans is in the parking lot of the campground. Note that the capmping ground is closed in the winter.. but the surrounding national Forest is good to go. This is about an hour out of Denver in light traffic.

The first four sites sit along CO Hwy 5, which leads to Mt Evans summit. Road is open 24 hours a day from Memorial Day to Labor Day. So, if you stay there any night, be ready to listen to traffic all night. If you're naive enough to stay on Labor Day, like I was, prepare for an annual drag race of hundreds of cars roaring outside your tent at midnight (and don't severely sprain your ankle packing up camp at 1am). There are other sites in farther from the road, but the noise of traffic carries to all corners of the small campground. I don't understand why campsites would be so close to a heavily trafficked road like that or near its intersection with another State highway. Avoid if you can.

Great sites, lots of stuff to do nearby. Our campground host Tony was super friendly, helpful, and brought our experience here to a new level!

Pretty good camp site. It is right at the base of Mount Evans. Not really any complaints, not to many amenities. It is far away from any stores and really anything. The closest places are Idaho springs and evergreen for food or anything. Even in the middle of summer this place gets COLD at night. Overall great spot.
