I really enjoyed El Chingon! Cool ambience inside. I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and attentive. Had the carnitas and it was out of this world, highly recommend! Pozole was also fantastic to start. Excellent margaritas too.Food: 5/5
El Chingon just opened back up and it's great to see it back. The space is bigger and they are going to have a great patio this summer. Let's talk about the food! The dishes are family recipes modernized by their amazing chef. I had the Carne Asada and it was . Their Carnitas plate is amazing too. Shout out to Oscar for taking care of us during a very busy evening. Make time for this place. It's worth the visit. We'll be back!
Excellent Food! My friends and I decided to try el chingon and we were amazed. The asada tacos were definitely my favorite! If you enjoy some drinks “la gloria” is delicious.
Glad this place opened up. First time stopping in and everything seems great so far. I came during happy hour, fantastic margarita for $7, and chicharrones for $8.
Such a great first experience. The enchiladas verdes were delicious and the carnitas pulled apart perfectly. The paloma so refreshing! Staff, so kind and attentive. Presentation was chefs kiss. Ambiance was so vibey - you could relax and have cocktails all night long. Definitely first of many times to come for date night. So happy to have El Chingon in the LoHi neighborhood!
Oh boy, I hate to post the first bad review but I think it’s important … I don’t get what’s going on here. I can only conclude that everyone is too inebriated to notice. The decor and ambiance, as another reviewer noted, is “vibey” and hits the mark but certainly conveys a very party vibe even at the innocent hour of 7 pm. The service, while sweet, was equally random. All of our food came out at once. When asked a couple of simple questions, the server admitted to not ever having tried much of it. Our steak was cold. The salad was a strange mix of old soggy lettuce, pickled onions and raw zucchini’s — so we returned it and they were quick to oblige. The carnitas were sorely overcooked with a side of rice and beans that seemed to have been reheated from an all you can eat buffet. It was all like a sad cruise where you wished it was just a lot later at night and you were at least two drinks deeper. I’m sorry but perhaps the nice staff and devoted owner can try again — the concept and menu seem great. It just needs an execution fix.
Stopped in for a drink and didn’t realize it was their first day open! The bartenders were fantastic and marg was great! Definitely will be coming back.
I’ll start by saying the food is fantastic! The vibe however will need to mature if the restaurant wants to find success in this neighborhood. The music was far to clubby and loud for my table of 30somethings to have a conversation, it felt like a college bar trying to hard to be cool. My advice would be to turn down the music and focus on the dining experience, the food deserves it
Food portions are smaller that would had hoped. Apps and dinner came out at the same time, so make sure you specify to your wait staff if you want apps first as ours didn’t know that. The drinks were very heavy on ice. Overall food was 6.5/10, ambiance was 8/10 and price was 5/10. The chile relleno felt like an Italian sauce dish, the ceviche was just chucks of shrimp, the cauliflower steak should be an app not a main dish and the papas app was far from exciting. Not to mention they charge you extra if paying with credit card. We were not a fan of this. As other people have commented, wish you were a few drinks deeper for the food as it feels very much so like airport food.
Wonderful dining experience. The Bartender Jordan and staff were the Best!! New Years dinner was amazing. Will be my go to spot for sure!!
