The inn keeper is really nice & welcoming. The bathroom was really nice as well with heated floors (we stayed in the Kai). However, for us, the cons outweighed the pros. The first night we stayed at the EMI was when I realized we made a mistake by staying here. We were very cold. We asked the innkeeper about turning on the radiator heater in the room. She said the heat was set at 68 degrees, meanwhile it was 54 degrees outside. Then she told us to grab some of her old blankets in the closet, which we did not want to use. 20 minutes later she finally decided to bring us a heater we could use. The stairs are really old and creaky & you can hear when someone is walking up or down them, so if you're a light sleeper, forget about a good nights rest. The sheets & bedding are really old with brown stains on them! They were cleaned, but old. We brought our own blankets. She didn't ask if we needed new towels for the bathroom nor did she pick up or take out our used ones. I'm happy we brought our own. We had no more washcloths after the first night. There are no locks on the doors & sometimes she is not there, so there may be other guests there alone with your things & the back door is kept open all day until the last guest comes in for the night. Her stuff is everywhere, In the closets, all over the bathroom; however it is neat & tucked away. This is an old and smelly house. If you are expecting hotel standard, do not stay here. Also, if you like your privacy & you do not like to stay with others, do not stay here. Grab a hotel somewhere else. Because of this experience, I will not be staying at a B&B again.

What a nice little oasis in Takoma Park. It is obvious when you walk in this in no ordinary B&B. Your are staying in a lovely home and welcomed like family. There are cats and a dog, but since we have no allergies, all was well. Every detail in our room was truly first class, my home isn't like this. We will be back.

I would have given Etta Mea Inn five stars but the website says that breakfast is different every morning. We stayed for three nights and breakfast for me was the same every morning: cantaloupe, eggs and turkey bacon. One morning there was an option of pancakes, but I do not care for pancakes. The muffins were different each day. Breakfast is a big deal to me--the main point of staying at a BB is for a nice homemade breakfast. Staying at Etta Mea is like staying at someone's house, the owner lives there and frequently has friends and family over--I'm not saying it is good or bad but it is something to take into consideration. The bathrooms are amazing with heated floors. It is about a 15 minute walk to the metro station and there are a lot of really good restaurants nearby. Parking is free.

February 14, 2009 My family and I stayed at the Etta Mae Inn in mid February. Francoise and Jim are incredibly generous and courteous hosts. It felt as though we were staying with extended relatives that we'd known for our whole lives - not just some people renting us a room for an evening. I loved how various of their relatives and friends just kept popping in and out - it added to the home-y-ness. We stayed in bedroom one. It was quite comfy. The bed is a little hard, but the bathroom MORE than makes up for it. I loved the wallpaper, I loved the heated floors, but, most of all, I loved that shower. It was just the best thing ever. I am going to go out and get one of those showerheads! Since my husband had to be at the hospital for surgery the next morning and needed to take the car, Jim dropped me off later that morning. Try and get that kind of generosity and service from a corporate hotel or anywhere else and you're bound to be disappointed. Thanks again Jim. They've got 4 cats and 1 dog - all (except the deaf black cat) are friendly and want to be petted. My daughter LOVED playing with these critters. She also enjoyed playing with the many toys the owners have for their grandchildren. So don't be shy about staying here if you've got kids. They'll be happy. All in all, we will definitely stay here again if our business brings us back out their way. I whole-heartedly advise you to stay here. Ciao.
