Pleasantly surprised with this place! Only downside is the prickle situation. I do not recommend bringing your dogs, though if you do there are a few sites tucked into the woods where you won't have as much of a problem. We had a great site and we were only there for a day and a half and I still pulled at least three out of both my dogs. They were less than thrilled. I got two myself and those suckers are a pain - literally. Other than that, the facilities are fantastic. Bathroom is clean and the showers are tidey though we weren't there long enough to need a shower. Each site has a nice little grill and a large picnic table and room for two pickup trucks. The BEST part about this place is beach access. Be sure to get the proper permits for beach driving and a fire and I guarantee you will have a great trip. Where else can you roast hot dogs ON THE BEACH at sunset?? We went in October and it really was a perfect trip. Next time I will bring some little booties for my dogs to protect their feet. I can't wait to visit again!

One of my family's favorite campgrounds. All the campsites are tucked away in cozy sand dunes with knareled oak trees for shade. Lots of wildlife to see. They have restrooms and showers located in convenient spots throughout the campground. There are awsome boardwalks that lead to the beach and extra parking areas nearby. There is also a 4 1/2 mile trail to Cape Hatteras. Great place to surf, fish, swim, fly kites, relax!

Great secluded tent spots, nice facilities. Downsides were the sandspurs that stuck in my dog’s feet and finding 7 ticks on him in 12 hours. This was in late November.

Well, the park itself is really something nice but the reason we went was because it's on the ocean and we love to just sit on the beach in our beach chairs to watch and listen to the waves roll in. FORGET that HERE! Our national park system allows trucks, cars and just plain annoying beach vehicles on the beaches completely destroying the piece and quiet of something natural everyone goes there for! That IS what a park is for isn't it? Nature!! We felt we were in a Walmart parking lot! Most of their vehicles also sported loud music with speakers to boot. How in the world could our PARK system allow, even encourage this is beyond me. It TOTALLY ruins the entire park and beach for anyone but the rednecks flying all over the beach in there vehicles. IT's a BEACH and NOT a parking lot or race strip! I TOTALLY blame our park service for allowing this.

How there were vacant sites at this campground on a beautiful July weekend is completely baffling to me. Frisco Beach campground is the perfect launching point for enjoying a weekend on Hatteras Island or ferrying to Ocracoke. It is a well-maintained, exceptionally affordable ($28/night), beachside haven. The campgrounds are comprised of 127 spacious sites that vary from sandy, brush-enclosed tent spots, to larger, more open camper spots on the hillside with ocean views. There are several modest, but clean bathroom and shower facilities on the grounds. The nearest camping sites to the beach are about 0.25-mile walk on boardwalk and sand. Without hesitation I would camp here again. As a forewarning to guests who are looking to retreat to this getaway last minute: online reservations close 3-days in advance and spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve walk-in basis. To check availability in advance, call the on-duty ranger.
