My Grandparents took us here when we were kids back in the mid-late 90s with their 5th wheel and we loved it. Its a smaller campground...but that's a good thing. I have since returned here about 2 years ago and its just as it was back then. The sites are paved which is great...and the bath houses are clean and maintained. If you're able to get sites in the trees that's best for those hot summer days. I've been coming to this area since 1980 when I was born...and still love it just as much. It much more laid back compared to the Kitty Hawk/Nags Head area and just simply beautiful.  I definitely recommend this campground to anyone. If you have a REALLY large rig you may have some issues maneuvering...something to consider...but there are a handful of pull through lots. Most lots have full hookups too...but not every lot carries 50a service.

Great campground!  Very pretty and well-kept in every way!  Tall pines, friendly staff and campers. Great location with direct beach access, about halfway between Bodie and Hatteras lights.  Nicest place I have camped all the way from Cape Cod to here--really!!

ZERO STARS!! BEWARE!!! The reviews on here about them being RUDE and NOT ISSUING REFUNDS IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES are true!!! We have stayed here many years and appreciated how well maintained things are, as well as the beach access. And the prices are certainly good but that unfortunately is due to the poor customer service. We travel with family, 3 RVs in total, and in our early years of booking here an effort was made to keep our campers together.  We realize how difficult this is to do, especially with differing dates for arriving and leaving. However, in recent years we stopped asking because we were only given rude remarks that made it clear they weren't willing to accommodate that. Oh well! I don't mind them enforcing their campground rules as it generally makes for a pleasurable stay.

However, the final straw came with the power outage caused by construction workers on the new bridge. We were concerned about our vacation plans. As I said, we travel together and coordinate our plans with two other campers. We knew rescheduling at other places would be difficult on short notice so we called Ocean Waves to check on the status of power on the island. We were told that power was on and, even after asking about the rolling blackouts and conservation efforts specifically, we were told that "everything is fine. It is great!" Obviously, that is not how things were as there was a mandatory evacuation issued the next day and there is not power as I write this review. Needless to say, we were not refunded and had we travelled down on their assessment of the situation we would have been charged our entire stay and only been issued a raincheck just to leave the next day.
I look forward to writing a positive review about the campground we are currently staying at. It may not have ocean access but it does have kind, helpful owners who have been understanding of our situation. Also, thankful to the other campgrounds we spoke with on Hatteras island who were honest about the power outage and helped us decide to change our plans instead of going through with our reservation at Ocean Waves. 
We love Hatteras island but we will be staying at other campgrounds in the future!!!!

Nice clean park with small dog run. Right by the dunes on the other side of the beach with concrete pads. Mostly not shaded, but some are. Location is nice. Reasonably priced for location $52   mid Sept

Clean quiet quaint. This place has great sites with trees that help block the wind. Very close to the ocean with its own private path to the beach. Very clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Beautiful little store stocked with everything you'd need to make your vacation perfect. I appreciate the 5 mph limit, it's much safer for kids and all who walk the park. I would very highly recommend this place to everyone. Cheapest, nicest sites on the island!
