1 star for the front desk staff. 5 stars for Pamela the head of housekeeping! I had paid for my room August 6th, for a wedding we were to attend September 3. After driving from Lincoln Nebraska to Rapid City over 10+ hours I was exhausted. I had no way to call he hotel, because there was no cell phone service in South Dakota for my cell phone service. We arrived around 1pm. I asked if we could check in. I was informed by the front desk clerk I had to wait until 3 to check in. I told him I had a wedding at 3pm and that we had been driving almost non stop from Lincoln to get there early so we could prepare. He said go ahead and go to the wedding and check in after it's over. REALLY??? I told him we needed to press our clothes and take showers before the wedding. He then informed us to find another hotel, that he would refund us what we had already paid. We (my sister and I) were shocked at this request. We became upset and insisted that he try to understand our situation. He messed around for over 20 minutes and I kept at him to ask the maids if they could help. When he realized I was not budging. I saw him walk around the corner (I could see him in the reflection of the glass) and finally talked to someone). We had waited almost 45 minutes for customer service. Pamela, the head of head of housekeeping showed up. She was the ONLY reason why we did not leave. She was very accommodating, she made sure to already be prepared for a wedding party. She is truly an asset to the hotel. She performed over and above expectations of a typical housekeeper. She also followed up with us to make sure we were happy with our stay.

So let me start by saying, everyone we talked with was very nice. That said, the first room we got was pretty bad. The AC didn't work. The flange in the toilet got stuck open, and flooded the bathroom ... at 4am. This is when we moved to a new room. The new room had functioning AC and toilet, but the WiFi in both rooms was just horrendous. It's slow, the connection is spotty. It's as close to non-functional as you can get without being ... non-functional. Like I said the only saving grace here is the employees, who were all very nice. Without them, this rating would be one star.

My son and I stayed there for 3 nights and as most people do I did a walk through. First thing is that that the shower curtain was loose as well was the bath tile but after driving 350 I had a shower and went bed. My house is not spotless but at the very least I don't have dirty carpets and dust on the TV, table, bed frame on the way or lamp shades. I have been in some five star (Vegas) rooms and never once has someone who had a key to my room ever ate some of my food from my table in a motel, sorry but that pissed me off . The second thing that made me mad was when the maid told that the envelope on the table was for a $20.00 tip my ass she didn't dust vacuum or clean. So I confronted the Mgr on duty on Thursday about the problems, she was very understanding in fact she offered to pay for 2 breakfasts at Perkins. I told her that I really needed to get on the road so I ask her to take some off my bill and once again she was very understanding for three night stay over $225.00 she credited me back $20.00. In closing I spoke to the front desk after every issue. I would really like to speak to the owner but he is probably to busy to address and speak to his customers in person.

Rooms were clean enough. They feature a 130 foot waterside in their pool. However, the pool heater is not working and they keep promising it will be fixed. Stayed here specifically to keep a small child happy and they just look at me like idiots when I ask if it is fixed. Don't boast something that is not able to be used. Tons of kids and no pool. Did not replace coffee after used it this morning. Would not recommend again.

We stayed at the Grand Gateway for four nights over July 4th weekend. It was conveniently located near I-90 and was a great spot for a home base. Room was equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave and free safe. Beds were comfortable and the room overall clean. There is a Perkins attached making late night snacks or breakfast easy. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and exceptionally helpful with all situations. Now, onto the pool. The pool and slide are fantastic.....if, you find time to enjoy it when it is not a mad house. We enjoyed the pool immensely two different afternoons after the majority of tourists had left for the day. Most evenings the pool is overloaded with children of parents who don't pay attention to what their kid is doing.
