I learned my lesson. I will NEVER go back to the Hair care scene (7233 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64131). Please learn from my mistake, as it is a grave one. I was recommended to this salon by a friend. My style was supposed to be a relaxed. I planned my appointment 3 weeks in advance, and showed up on time. Long story, short, I loved my hair when I left. But this story is not short so let’s rewind. To warn others of the damage done to my hair I will provide pictures. Michelle, the stylist that did my hair, for whatever reason under processed my hair. This is a licensed stylist, not a student. I did not expect an amatuer job. Before I went, I did my research. She seemed to be a professional with lots of experience with healthy hair. Well my hair was healthy until I sat in that seat. I asked for a body wrap(rolled with big rollers and sat under the dryer). After I sat under the dryer for over an hour she unrolled my hair and flat ironed it. I did not think anything was wrong, I thought she was going for a sleeker look. I had no idea she was covering up the portions of my hair that weren’t relaxed. As you can see in the pictures that when my hair is wet is extremely obvious that the textures are different. She knew this, but instead of admitting her mistake she covered and let me pay and leave the salon, with hair half done. I started noticing during the week that when I brushed my hair it would snag and break. I thought maybe it was dry, so I added moisture. No, it was still breaking. I then try to make an appointment with her but our schedules conflicted, so I went to a hair salon to have it washed and rolled again. This is the SAME week. When this stylist washed my hair she saw as soon as the water touched my hair, it was not properly relaxed. Her exact words were “Honey, next time you relax, you need to go to a salon.” I replied “I did.” She showed me the parts of my hair that weren’t even touched. So what’s the big deal? The different textures are causing unnecessary breakage. Breakage that could have been avoided if processed correctly. At this point I’m still not angry, I’m told I just need to wait a few weeks to get a corrective relaxer. This is costing me money that I don’t feel I should have to spend again. I paid Michelle $70. When I text her with pictures and asked for a refund. I was immediately told that she doesn’t do refunds. She would be happy to correct it. That’s when I became angry. Where is the customer service? I’m not a girl who decided I didn’t like my hair when I left and wanted a re-do. I did not get the service I paid for. If she covered up the mistake the first time, I don’t trust her to try again. She knew it would damage my healthy hair and did it anyway. She should have offered the job for free, but she let me pay. Where is the integrity? As black women, why are we subjected to such poor customer service in our community. I was devastated. She wouldn’t offer a partial refund either. She didn’t realize that this is a mistake that cost me money and my hair. And the only thing she could do was correct it. There should be no correction! It was 100% her error. Now I have to pay another stylist what I just paid her to do. It’s not fair, and unethical. $70 is not a lot of money, unless it is wasted. I can’t get a refund, I can’t sue. I can only warn others. I feel so small. I now spend more on trying to keep my hair from breaking and retaining the length I took over a year to achieve. Please do not go to the Hair Care Scene. They couldn’t care less.
