I have been here twice. Both times, my experience was horrendous. The first time I was admitted, I was 18 years old and put into the adult unit. It was "eh" until we were suddenly put into the geriatric unit. Then it absolutely sucked. We were no longer able to go out to the cafeteria to eat; meals were now delivered and we were stuck on the floor. Going to the cafeteria to eat was the only thing to look forward to during the day. Then this year I was involuntarily admitted in January into the dual unit only because I had marijuana in my system. I do not abuse any alcohol or drugs, and so found the forced, nightly AA/NA meetings to be useless. All of the staff were uncaring, especially Sharon. She treated all of us as if we were children, and was extremely snotty to all. My psychiatrist, Dr. Madison, seemed to want to leave as soon as he arrived. Many of the other patients disliked the staff as well. Very rarely did any of the staff actually treat you like a human being. The therapy here was a joke. It felt like a sadder, more depressed daycare. "Creative Therapy", as they called it, was more like ten minutes of coloring with music playing in the background, then twenty more minutes of listening to people present their artwork. Individual, one-on-one therapy does not exist here. You are forced to go to group (which happens 5+ times a day, depending on if the staff are on schedule), under the threat of a later discharge date. I recommend AGAINST this psych ward. I would shut this place down, had I the power and chance. Nothing would be more detrimental to yours or a loved one's mental health than being sent here. You will leave feeling worse than before. The only kind staff member was Keith. He actually took the time to talk to the priso...patients. He is the only staff member I would recommend speaking to. I also never received a diagnosis, which was one of the reasons I was admitted.

NOT A PATIENT. As a visitor we were greeted by an impersonal, mean, cruel lady who was everything but helpful. I can’t believe how rude this lady was. Never got her name but she was older and had red short hair. She never directed us to the correct place to go and you’re given a short amount of time so we spent most of it confused and misguided. I really hope this lady is fired. Disgusted.

i was 20 years old when i went there. only smoked weed and tried to attempt suicide. they put me in the dual unit for mental health and addiction. no help whatsoever. i had to repeatedly go to AA meeting when i never even drank! Every adult in there was an alcoholic or heavy drug addict where as i was not and did not fit in. bugs crawling around everywhere. no one on one help. not enough time outside. they also can keep you longer for saying things you shouldn’t be. it felt like you always had to watch your back and mouth. the adult males made sexually comments towards any of the younger smaller women. The whole experience was traumatizing and i do not recommend this place to anyone.

I recently spent over 4 weeks here.First you are assigned a therapist but you rarely sit down with one to get a picture of why you are there in the first place. They give you coping skills and when you say you are using that them there must be nothing wrong with you you are ready for discharge. I was told I had a review date but not told it was my discharge date.I find that very poor comunitication.I was basically put out feeling worse then when I came in.When a grown adult has been suffering with depression their whole life it isn't that easy to change over night.The report to my Dr stated that I refused to use the coping skills provided to me at Hamton house. When you have severe depression like do and the feelings of hopeless it's hard to see the light.I find the statement very callous and ignorant. I am learning that not everyone working in the mental health field cares or understands the patients trusted in their care. All the staff did was complain the air condition didn't work.Maybe they should use the coping skills that they give to the patients.I see there is one positive review at the top of the page.if you notice it wasn't from a patient.To be honest a person would get more out of going for one on one with a professional. I think the group theropy is a waste of time because you are in a room with people with many disorders .There are people in recovery from addiction, suicide attempt, people that have been released from prison.As far as someone commenting on the food , if you are only concerned about the quality of the food or quantity then your problems must not be that bad , people with severe depression like myself lose interests in food and other things ,that why you are here.Again if can afford it and have the resources get a good therapist's who is trained to find out what problems you have and then try to have a productive life.

This place is disgusting! My sister NEVER got her clothes, and I wanted to fight the lady at the front desk...but i would of gotten arrested
