If I could give a lower rating I would! This place is not only dirty and has rude front desk staff but also has unprofessional and incompetent doctors. If you love your animal and you consider them apart of your family, do not trust these people with their health and lives! We had a Maltese, her name was Rosie and she was 15 years old. No one would believe she was 15 by the way she'd run around and play. However, due to the incompetence of this animal hospital, Rosie's life was cut short. She could have been saved if we had brought her somewhere else- somewhere where the staff cared more about the animal then closing time. On November 1st, after seeing her struggle to get up, my sister and I took her to Hauppauge Animal Hospital. We called and made an appointment for 6:15pm. When we arrived, with our little sick dog wrapped up in a blanket, we were told that they didn't have us in the system and that they were closing soon. There was absolutely zero compassion or concern from the front desk. After an unnecessary and aggressive exchange with the staff member, we were put on the schedule at 6:30pm. Unfortunately, the lack of compassion didn't just stop at the front desk. Once in the room the doctor began to examine Rosie. Within a minutes of her examination we were told that she had a heart murmur (which Rosie has never had heart problems in the past), that there was a giant mass on her spleen that was most likely cancerous because it was hard and that the only treatment was surgery in which she might not survive. She than recommended an X-ray to confirm the mass which we of course agreed to. While Rosie was getting the X-ray my sister and I, completely devastated by the news, could hear the doctor talking so casually about these "cancerous tumor" in our dog. Once the mass was visualized on the X-ray I asked the doctor if we could get her blood work to confirm it was in fact cancer, which she repeatedly said it was. I wish I had a tape recorder for when she told me that blood work wouldn't show if it was cancer unless the cancer was in her blood but she’d do it anyway. In my opinion this woman's license should be revoked for that comment alone. After drawing her blood and charging us nearly $400.00 we were dismissed-sent home distraught and without help. The very next day we had to rush Rosie to North Shore Animal Hospital (a recommendation from a friend) where they did everything they could possibly do to save our dog. It turns out that nothing the doctor from Hauppauge Animal Hospital said about Rosie's prognosis was accurate. The so called heart murmur was ammonia (fluid in the lungs) which is treatable and the massive cancerous tumor on her spleen was really a large and yet drainable cyst in her bladder. These people robbed Rosie of the care she needed that night. They prey on those who'd do anything for their pets for the greed of money. Do NOT go to Hauppauge Animal Hospital!

We took our beloved 18 year old cat there last night to be put down. Absolutely zero compassion. The entire family myself, my husband 14 yo son 12 yo daughter came. They kept a stone face the entire time. Not one word of comfort to us. They tried to injected her 3.4 lb body twice to get her to go to sleep. After that when they planned on injecting her with the euthanasia, could not get the needle in the leg. Didn't seem know what they were doing. Tried both legs, Then they told my husband they had to take her in another room to put her down. We couldn't be there with her. Not only are they horrible with showing any compassion, they couldn't allow the family to spend the last moments with her. Not ever stepping foot in that horrible place again.

I highly recommend HAH. I've been going there for years with Jack. The staff and doctors are helpful and sympathetic. They never talked down to me and took the time to explain everything that was going on internally with Jack in a manner I could understand. Unfortunately, after two surgeries in the past two years, Jack finally succumbed to cancer and I had to put him down last weekend. I will never forget all that HAH had done for Jack. Thank you.

We've been using Dr. Pete for over 10 years. We mostly use his mobile vet service, and only go into the hospital when it is necessary. Dr. Pete has been warm caring and up to date on the latest vet medicine. When my female husky was 4 we discovered a growth on her ear. It turned out to be nerve sheath cancer. He was able to remove part of her ear and reshaped it to look like the other. On another occasion, when our male husky passed suddenly after hours, he came to our home and took our Nanuk so my small children did not have to see him. He always goes above and beyond. I would highly recommend using the mobile veterinary services
