Nice friendly staff. Rooms are clean, average size. There is a restaurant attached to the building so you do not have to go outside to reach it. Nice, indoor pool. There is an exercise room (can't comment, didn't use it). There are 3 gas station/convenience stores within 200 yards.

We love the indoor pool and the convenience of where Howard Johnson’s is in South Portland. 

We use whenever we visit Maine from Texas (a couple times a year)

Staff is very friendly and they keep the rooms clean and comfortable.

Definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I recently stayed over after having undergone surgery. The staff were very pleasant in getting me a first room floor nearest the main entrance so I didn't have to walk far. They were also very quick to fix the toilet when it had issues flushing. The breakfast had quite a bit of variety, my only issue was the breakfast room was very small and packed full of people. I had to bring my breakfast back to my room because of that. Otherwise it was a very great stay.

This is obviously an older Howard Johnson but the room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. Nothing special but reasonable accomodations.

The place reaked of cigarettes when you walked in the front door. The hall by our room was even worse with cigarettes and Marijuana. The hallway had water dripping from the ceiling, the shower had no plastic liner only a cloth curtain. My assumption is when you use booking. Com they put you in the back of the hotel where you have junkies letting their kids run around in diapers. I would never go here or recommend this to anybody, if we had our daughter with us we would have left and found a different place.
At one point I overhead the gentleman at the front desk telling a customer as he checked in “this is usually the last place around the area to be fully booked “ if that doesn't tell you something nothing will. One *star is a gift.
