The Heron Rookery is a nature preserve along the East Arm Little Calumet River. Parking at both ends of the trail.

It's basically a 1.5 mile one-way trail along the river. Interesting hike but RUGGED. Several places where you could fall 15-20 feet off the trail and into the river. This is not a leisurely family hike. Path is very narrow, in some places only about a foot wide. Bugs are very bad even with spray, but that is to be expected by the river.

A good challenging trail. I recommend it to the adventurous.
