Chef-owned and family operated, The Iron Lantern welcomes you to enjoy the courtesy of our friendly staff, the warmth of our cozy atmosphere, and our menu of truly unique cuisine. The Iron Lantern is one of Vermont's hidden Gems, and a Castleton favorite.

Our building itself, constructed in the 1950's, has enjoyed a rich history of local eateries, from the casual to the more elegant, and it is our hope that your dining experience at our restaurant becomes "history making" as well.

Based on other google reviews we decided to give this a try while staying in Rutland. We thought it was worth the drive, everyone was very nice, while the food and service were both excellent. This was a special occasion as we were celebrating a birthday in our group, normally we aren't able to spend quite this much on our outings. With that said, we felt everything was better than our expectations for this price range. We are going to visit again when family is in town to visit.

Very nice small town restaurant. Excellent food. Never disappointed here. A slight bit pricier than it could be, but the quality is definitely there, so it's not a deal breaker. Soup, salad, and bread bar are the best around. One of our favorite restaurants.

Great food, steaks, apps and beer. Nice servers and great salad bar. Also really enjoyed the band.

We love the Iron lantern for the wonderful salad bar, homemade soup of the day, and fresh baked bread that is included with your meal.

It's not fancy, but the food was good. This is the first salad bar I've seen where they had shrimp cocktail! I'm normally not the kind of person that goes for places with salad bars (in fact, I tend to shy away from them), but this salad bar is notable for it's variety. I had the seafood pasta with a cream sauce. The flavors were excellent, but there was way too much sauce. They had a very nice selection of beers on tap.
