I used to love this little place tucked away off tourist radar BUT now it's disgusting. My seven year old and I launched our kayaks and didn't make around the first been before being inundated with garbage in the water, industrial construction on the banks and trees downed blocking our expedition. There is also no longer any swimming allowed. All there is is a picnic table but who wants to picnic next to a polluted cesspool? It's sad. I used to take my children there 20yrs ago and it was a blast. No more : (

This is a great park to take your family to with a nice playground area. There are pavilions that you can reserve for parties, events, etc. all around. Lots of great trails with a lot of animals to see. Fun afternoon adventure if it is not too hot!

This is a cool little Park with manatees! Not too many alligators though that's kind of a disappointment but it has a great Boardwalk that runs through the main lower Trail next to the river, people can kayak ride bikes you hear otters in the river overall it's a great place. One word of warning though. This park is infested with the dangerous highly aggressive carnivorous gopher tortoise. 😂 There a lot of gopher tortoises Milling around eating leaves and grass and if you approach them they won't even stop to hiss at you they just hiss and continue to eat! Yes gopher tortoises are adorable. People who stay on the main trail find an extremely safe walk in the park with their family. As I have my concealed carry permit I am always arms especially back in the Parks and preserves because this is Florida and there are wild pigs in the park wild pigs can be Territorial and dangerous, but generally they will avoid you. Another bonus and you can find water moccasin snakes and other snakes in the park as well to look at. Leave the wildlife alone and observe it from a distance as being bit by water moccasin is not going to be a good day. All in all this is one of my favorite places.

Always a great place to get a fresh breath of air . Awesome kayak launch but if you’re headed west you won’t get very far as there are still down trees that way . Heading east is your best bet ,but pay attention to the tides . Farther down there is a down tree that you can glide over but once over the tide will drop lower than the tree and you won’t be able to leave until the tide comes back (few hours)
