Story

Since 1927, JB Hostetter and Sons has helped our Mount Joy neighbors finish their home improvement projects by supplying them with the tools and materials they need.

Our store, on West Main Street in Mount Joy, features a large appliance showroom (with fridges, dishwashers, ovens, and washer/dryers from leading manufacturers), zero turn mowers, snowblowers, grills, and more.

For home redecorating projects, our True Value hardware and paint departments have the supplies and expertise to rely on. Our home décor includes wall decals, decorations, and flags. Be sure to check out our housewares section for all your canning needs.

Freshen up your yard with mulch and fertilizer from our lawn and garden department, and find the right plants and trees in one of our three greenhouses.

We service everything we sell, including appliances, tools, and mowers. Bring your snowblower and lawn equipment in for a seasonal tune up and make sure it starts every time you need it.

I like that this store has exactly what I need. And the sales people are helpful, knowledgeable, and available without being pushy. And when I rented a tool that didn't get the job done, the manager gave me a refund. It wasn't his fault I didn't know what I was doing. But Hostetter's knows what they are doing and now I don't want to go anywhere else.

Great store, people are extremely helpful and very nice. Only issue I have is SOME things seem priced a little high, but that's just my opinion in all fairness.

RESPONSE to YOUR RESPONSE 3-9-2018
After Ken smugly dismissed my wife as if she were like a clueless woman, I called.  He said he check with the technician and that the technician said our tenet was basically a liar.  I believe he said “Your stories just aren’t adding up”.  

I asked him to send the same technician so he could explain what he had said and so we could clear up the misunderstanding.  He said - “No way”.  I don’t know why he said that, but that is what he said.

The only thing he offered was to take out your thermometer that did no good, and refund us for the part.  Leaving the refrigerator unusable.

The issue was not in the process of being resolved, your resolution was unacceptable.  Up until we posted a negative review the only treatment we got was nothing but dismissive and arrogant.

Horrible customer service. 

We had one of their technicians come out to diagnose a problem with a
refrigerator. They misdiagnosed and put in a thermometer which was not
needed. 

When the technician left they told the person there that they would need a
compressor and that he would have to come back with a person qualified to
work on the compressor. 

Then we, the landlords got a bill making it look like the job was complete
so we paid it.  A few weeks later our tenants called and asked us what the
status of the refrigerator compressor was.

When we called in to find out what happened the manager of the service
department told us that he thought we were lying and that something else had
simply gone wrong with the refrigerator. He also accused our tenets of lying
about what technician told them.  

He said best that he could do was come and pull out the thermometer that
they had put in leaving the refrigerator unusable and then refund us the money
for the thermometer.

I have not had to deal with this level of ignorance and belligerents in a
very long time, we will never go back to Hostetter which we frequented
almost two to three times a month, especially in the summer.

Had he handled it right, they probably could have sold us a new refrigerator, instead he jumped right into accusing us of being a band of liars and lost 4 life long customers for good.

I am so pleased with the quality of service. No matter the question they have the answer or they find it. So knowledgeable.  Great hometown resource.

There hasn't been a moment that we were unattended. The staff is knowledgeable and always courteous. The items are of high quality and priced well. Hostetter's has more to offer than the big chains.
