Kit Carson Park

Story

Kit Carson Park is a 285acre municipal park in Escondido, California, United States. The park was named after Christopher (Kit) Carson, the famous scout who guided Captain John C. Frémont over the Sierra Nevada during a government exploration expedition. The park sits in a valley that is approximately 5mi west of where Kit Carson fought in the Battle of San Pasqual. A historical monument commemorating the battle is located on Mule Hill, one mile southeast of the park.HistoryThe City of Escondido acquired the land for its largest regional park from the City of San Diego in 1967. of the park have been developed, and have been preserved as natural habitat. The park has been described as the "city's recreation hub" with a "giant recreation complex".A Sports Center opened in 1997 which includes a 20000sqft skate park, a soccer arena and an arena for inline hockey. Solar panels are being installed at the sports center, as well as near the softball fields, as part of a bigger project to generate energy atop Escondido city facilities.Escondido Skate Park features wooden ramps rather than concrete, found in typical skate parks. The wooden ramp make the park more flexible when it comes to adding ramps and other features, but also makes it prone to weather damage. The city of Escondido renovated the 22,000-square-foot park in 2009, removing rotted plywood, replacing hardware and waterproofing the new wood. More than 10,000 in-line skaters, skateboarders and BMX riders from age 6 to adult use the park each year.

This park is one of the best in the area. It offers baseball diamonds soccer fields a skate park great hiking and bike trails. They also have many picnic pavilions and tables scattered around. There is an excellent Frisbee Golf Course. Also plenty of shade trees and a seasonal Creek. There are a couple of ponds, one has many turtles and ducks. I visit this park many times a week to walk, it's wonderful.

I was there to photograph the Barrel. It doesn't look that good to make me want to eat there. The surrounded area is not so delightful... Or safe

It looks like a nice place to relax. I drive through it week days, to pick up my niece from school. She and her mother have Cheer leading practice during the week there.

Great park. This is a large park (285 acres!) located just north of the North County Fair mall. It has several nice play areas for children. There are public restrooms located throughout the park. It has plenty of open space for sports. There is a frisbee/disc golf course. Plenty of parking available. There is also a pond and a large sports center.

Great facilities and spacious design, great for events, casual visits or parties with enough parking to go around. Only downside is having random solicitors near the playgrounds which is odd to come across but other than that it was nice. Our group had a great time overall
