These folks were really awesome. I had abused my bike for 4 years - very little maintenance. All the other shops were scheduling out a week of better just to get it in. Since Klunk really focuses on maintenance, they seem to have more technicians. Got me right in and now my bike is like brand new. Explained what they did, why, and gave some education on how to get the most out of my bike. Definitely recommend.

This shop is great. The bikes they carry fit the needs of most riders better than other stores in town. They carry all my favorite names in the cycle industry. The guys are friendly, helpful, and know their stuff. This is what a true LBS should feel like. Even though I was purchasing cheap parts, they treated me like a valued customer. Klunk's is now my first pick for my cycle needs in Columbia. Thanks guys!

Nice staff and all, and the tune-up was cheap compared to what it used to cost me in Minneapolis. Also, since I was holding my 10-month-old the guy at the shop offered to help me get the bike off of my car rack, which was very nice. However, a few things hacked me off a bit. First, when commenting on why my rear tire wasn't spinning true (it had a bit of a wobble), the guy I worked with (I don't remember his name) said "Yeah, that's just what happens with cheap wheels." Ok, sure, I'm in a shop surrounded by really nice 4- or 5-figure bikes. I paid $600 for mine, which personally I didn't think was "cheap." Everything's relative, I guess, and I don't think the guy meant to insult me, but it was a little snobby. Second, the guy talked me into a tune-up, which he said "usually runs about $50." I thought, that's not bad (again, compared to the $150 I would usually drop in MSP). Three minutes later as he's looking the bike over he said, "Yeah, I'm guessing this will be about $60." Ok, I thought, still not bad, and his keen bike-guy eye must've seen something that really was worth the extra $10. I got the bike back today and the bill was $73.24. Now yes, from what my untrained eye can tell they did a pretty good job cleaning and tuning it up, and yes, as I've noted, that's still half the price I routinely paid at similar shops in Minneapolis (not sure how it compares to other shops in Columbia, though). But wow, a nearly 50% bait-n-switch markup from the first rough estimate? Maybe I'm naïve and should accept that this is just common practice. But lump that together with the "cheap wheels" comment and I'm left with a taste that's more sour than sweet. Bottom line: If you're a true bike guy/gal, you'll probably really get into this place. If you're an average joe like me who rides a "cheap" $600 Trek to and from work and appreciates honest business practices, you may want to think twice about this place. Bigger picture: Anecdotally, I seem to see this too often with small businesses. They do a great job of catering to their base, because the owners/founders and the base are pretty much the same people ... that's probably why the owners/founders got into the business in the first place. But then an average schmo like me who wants to support small local businesses comes around and the service is (or at least feels) second-class.

As a rookie cyclist (just bought my first bike not even 6 months ago) I was very glad to find a place close here in town with such nice and knowledgeable staff. Every interaction I had with them was a positive one. They were able to repair my bike very quickly and the prices were incredibly reasonable. It is really nice to have a place like this, Columbia is lucky!
