Story

Lawrence + Memorial is a not-for-profit, general, acute care, private hospital that has been serving this region since 1912. We are licensed for 280 beds and provide patient care to medical, surgical, pediatric, rehab, psychiatric, and obstetrical patient.

Our staff is comprised of 2,300 highly skilled professional, technical and support personnel representing virtually every diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative specialty.

Where shall I start? Emergency room wait is way too long for a kidney stone! I had a fever on and off for a month and thought nothing was seriously wrong until I had extreme pain, doubling over, crying hysterically. 4 hours waiting to be seen with a fever and 2 hours to diagnosis a kidney stone after doing a CT scan, blood work, urine test, etc..., no pain med until I was getting ready to leave!  I was told to call a specific Dr, I have a kidney stone, an UTI and an infection in one of my kidneys.  sent home with antibiotic, a very light pain medication, Tylenol!!  Did not work! dr. appointment a week later with urologist!  He was very upset because the emergency room dr. didnt call him to make him aware there was an infection in my kidney! Not good! He made an appt to have emergency surgery to take out the infected kidney & stone the next day! I have an enormous bill! I can't work due to a few disabilities I have for life! I have no money to pay the hospital, the Dr's, the anestigiologist, and any test they had to do twice because the Dr. wasn't called! I now have debt collectors calling me every week for the bill's I can never pay. Thank you L&M for another let down! Just one of way too many surgeries I've had there. Now that Yale has taken over, not any better, just worse! Your corporate office sucks! They've fired people for no reason but they will hire someone to take their place, why? Because they can, because they can get away with anything for money, for discrimination, for changes to make thier customers feel worse than when they walked in! Remodeling... uncomfortable atmosphere! Dust, noise, making Migraines worse! My positive experiences were and the only reason I gave 2 stars are the compassion of the nurses, PCA,s and the way that they, all of them take care of their patients! Give them a raise, they deserve it!  Some of the very hard working individuals in Environmental Services work their but off to keep that hospital clean and in order! The work is way too much for what they are paid! Employees stating an opinion about something? doesn't matter! Getting hurt on the job? Nope! Fired!  they're a risk so hire more people with no experience, less pay! way to go! Sad, very, very SAD!

I would give it a zero.  Went with my son because of a very painful kidney stone.  Sat in a jam packed ER for two hours without being seen.  We finally just left.  We went to Backus a couple of years ago for the same issue and they were able to not only get rid of the pain but help him to pass the stone.  I will not go back to L&M and I advise the rest of you to stay away as well.

Took friend to ER. Amazingly clean, friendly,  professional , and did all necessary tests. Gave us lots of water and a few snacks as we were really diagnosis PERFECT. LEFT THERE VERY HAPPY!

Best hospital in new london county. The staff and doctors listen to you and actually explain things so you can understand them. If you have a choice between Backus hospital or Lawrence memorial always choose Lawrence memorial. You won't be disappointed. 💗💗💗

Have been here for a few weeks, and have not had a good experience. Between bruises on my arms like I was grabbed, rude nurses lying to doctors, and ignoring me when I knew something was wrong and needed meds for infections.. finally giving me them days later after continuously saying over my whole stay here that an infection was bad. To add on not the cleanest, I had a gathering of fruit flys just from the cleaning crew not coming in for days on end. I will in the future be taking the drive to Bacus hospital instead of this horrid vial place
