Great little park. Very New Mexican. Bring cash and firewood. Odd little park attendant. Likes to drink. Don't bother him after dark by driving around the park looking for firewood for sale (sign outside of his home). He was drunk when we first showed up at 2.30 and was even drunker when we showed up after dark. That said, a great little place and very wonderful surroundings. Highly recommended.

Let me start off by saying free fishing day starts June and ends September 23rd. The front desk didn't know, which would have been helpful because we had to drive back to Las Cruces to get a license that wasn't needed. However, she was really nice. Anywho, we came here to fish. There's a trail you need to walk to get to the river. I do not recommend bringing babies/ toddlers down this trail as it will get steep and hard to carry everything. The picnic area in front of the river could be landscaped. Lots of tall weeds. Didn't catch anything but maybe the next person will have luck. Overall, not too bad but prob better with a group of friends.

The day use area is permanently closed so there is no river/dam access. We came to fish and could not get to the water. The information on line indicated that fishing was available. Even when I made reservations on the phone I was not told that the river access was closed. When I found out upon arrival it was to late to get any of my money back. I walked all the trails the first day. Had 2 more days to kill.

Small park near Las Cruces with a good view of the Rio Grande and surroundings There are several very easy trails to hike on. There is also a small native plant garden identifying the different plants growing in hte area.
