Lombardino's Restaurant

Story

In the year 2000, Lombardino's Restaurant was purchased by Marcia & Patrick O'Halloran. The O'Hallorans breathed new life into the restaurant which has been a Madison tradition since it was founded in 1954 by Matt Lombardino. The interior of the restaurant remains true to Mr. Lombardino's vision of the 'Old Country'. Diners note the imported replica of Rome's Trevi Fountain just inside the door. In the main dining room, Roman columns, chandeliers and a mural depicting a Venice canal scene complete the old world - yet kitschy feel. Adorning the walls of the bar area are mosaic tiles which were shipped from Italy in the 1950s.

Menu selections change frequently to reflect the influence of the season and the freshest available products. Chef Patrick O'Halloran and General Manager Michael Banas have built relationships with many of the area's organic farmers resulting in the use of only the best locally grown produce items, eggs and meats. Many of Italy's finest cheeses, olive oil, and salumi are imported for the menu as well. The wine list is comprised of all Italian wines. These wines are carefully chosen to complement the changing seasonal menu selections. Authenticity is the goal at Lombardino's. To this end Chef O'Halloran and General Manager Banas make periodic trips to Italy to visit wineries and tratorias. These cultural excursions allow them the opportunity to build relationships with winemakers, farmers and vendors. Each trip refreshes the desire for authenticity. The friendly relationships allow for a unique understanding of regional Italian food and wine. Upon their return, Patrick & Michael share with the staff their knowledge of traditional ingredients, the historic origins of dishes and the distinctive process of winemaking. Their enthusiasm is evident in the dining room each and every night. A friendly staff, well versed in the use of proper ingredients, accurate preparation and artful presentation allows for a wonderful dining experience.
