First time visiting the old fashioned after being in the Madison area for almost 5 years. And I was incredibly surprised with the food and drinks. In my head I thought I was going to walk in to a "fad restaurant". They have a great variety of Old Fashioned's and they're definitely not water down, they pack a punch :) the food was very tasty, especially my England Clam Chowder that was made to perfection. Service is timely and courteous, prices for both food and drink are very reasonable for the serving sizes. Definitely will visit again.

Preface: love this place, but today my chicken taco had multiple bones in it. So if you go, double check your chicken.

How can you live in Madison and not have eaten at The Old Fashioned? Beer, cheese, cured meats, burgers, cheese curds, more beer - this place is an intersection of all things Wisconsin. And you can talk about the cozy vibe, the lengthy selection of delicious entrees, the even more lengthy beer list, great service... the list of great things goes on. But the main standout characteristics for me are a few:

1. They don't take reservations. This brings such a casual air to the restaurant that complements the perfect hang-out-with-friends-and-grab-a-hearty-meal type of evening. That, along with the ample bar space and the abundance of wood is just perfectly welcoming.

2. They bring out everyones orders at the same time. Big group? No different. It's a small detail that brings an extra bit of warmth and makes you feel like you're being taken care of. That kind of attention to detail makes me appreciate this place that much more.

I'll let other reviews speak for the food but don't think I'm not a fan - you'll just have to try it out for yourself! Their dedication to serving up the state staples makes The Old Fashioned truly where Wisconsin is king.

OH MY GOD!!! The flavor of the burgers is unlike anything I have ever had. By far the best burger I’ve ever eaten in my life. So soft and gooey, and so flavorful. They have a very unique flavor. Mmmmm.
I like #30. And the curds are really good too. This place is top notch 👌

great place to meet up with friends.  right in the heart of the capital square.  menu has the typical fan favorites, but they also have many unique items to pick from.  Lot of variety of beer on draft, and of course they have their Old Fashion they can make for you.  Great place.

Always busy, and there's a reason! The prices are very reasonable, the food has always been good, and the on-tap beer list has always been long with plenty of Wisconsin breweries featured. Ambience is kind of like an old school, low-key college bar, but clean. Just a very well-rounded, enjoyable dining and drinking experience!
