Food was excellent; service wasn't. We came in on a whim before heading to the courthouse. We were greeted by a waitress (bartender?) in a sweatshirt, which was completely unexpected given the atmosphere and decoration. She took our order but someone else served the plates. No one came back and checked on us except once, and it was right after we were served. Which means we didn't get a second beer or more ketchup for the delicious truffle fries. When we were ready to pay, it was like pulling teeth to get the waitress/bartender's attention. I would go back for the food and just expect bad service. I wish it had been different when we were there because we were running late and it was a special day. Oh well - at least the food was good.

OMG I love this place. Great food and ice cold beer with a friendly beautiful staff. Outstanding.

Best in the area for happy hour. Fast and friendly staff, a great menu, and delicious drinks make Manhattan Proper my go-to spot for events of all sorts!

January 2017 I'm updating this review to reflect my recent lunch experience. Their was one table when we arrived and no one showed up while we were there. We ordered truffle french fries which came out hot. The salad and wrap were alright. I asked for tomatoes and tomatoes wers in the salad and the wrap. Service was non exisent except for the bus boy/ food runner (who was the only person we left tip for. Our waitress was too busy chatting with the staff/manager and chef (weird to see a chef in and out of the dining room) cussing and talking about all the doubles she had done...all in all I was embarrassed that I recommended this place and plenty of other places have good wine and truffle fries. November 2016 It gets busy and CROWDED during happy hour. You have to stay at the bar unless you order food. Staff is pleasant and they can handle large groups and split the bill.

Great afternoon after a somber visit to reflecting pools on 15 th anniversary of 9-11. Around the corner from WTC, and was able to watch the US OPEN Tennis, and NYG on huge side by side TV,s, while sipping Vodka gimlet, nice hors de oevres and great barman, Chris
