I have a membership specifically for the pool and the sauna (otherwise I would just pay 20 dollars to a month to join planet fitness for cardiovascular and weight equipment).  For the extra 80 dollars a month:  The sauna is usually "broken" or well under the average sauna temp.  The standard "It should be fixed in 2 weeks or so" is the same narrative you will also get for the sauna and steam room at the GR location.  I haven't been to either location where the pools and sauna are in working order.  One, the other, or both, are out of service. Even if you have their app, they don't update it in a timely manner so you will arrive to be told the pool is out of service.
 
If you try to talk to staff about it, they are very blase about any kind of sense of urgency to get it resolved.  

If you express your frustration, theyou act as if you, the paying customer, doesn't have a right to be annoyed with their ongoing maintenence  issues. 

Totally not worth the money.

The group classes are amazing and the indoor track is clean. The staff is always super curtious and helpful. Love the place

They have a very bad daycare. They are not friendly and they just care about the money. If you cancel your membership there they will treat you bad

Good for out of town members! 10 visits free per year in one of the most beautiful Ys I've ever seen. Makes me want to move to Grand Rapids just to become a member.

The Mary Free bed YMCA is extra-ordinarily good.  I have visited some others Y's when out of town and REALLY see what a terrific YMCA facility and staff we have here in GR.
