Ohio County natives D.M. Miller, Jr. and Danny Schapmire began a partnership in the early 1960s while serving as funeral directors of Birkhead Funeral Home in Hartford.

In 1966 D.M. & Elizabeth Ann Miller and Danny & Suzanne Schapmire purchased the historic Benton-Felix property at 114 West Walnut Street in Hartford and started a tradition of funeral service excellence with the establishment of Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home.

The Benton-Felix home was built in 1849 and was the residence of Mr. Frank Felix. Mr. Felix served as County Attorney in the late 1800s and owned and operated the Hartford Herald from 1888 until 1917. Much of the original grandeur of the home still exists today. Through the years renovations have been completed to ensure a comfortable surrounding while still providing a homelike atmosphere reminiscent of times past.
