Located on Mote Marine Laboratory’s main campus in Sarasota, Florida, Mote Aquarium has played a key role in Mote’s outreach efforts since 1980, by presenting exhibits and programs that reflect ongoing research in the laboratory and that stimulate curiosity, discovery, exploration and stewardship of aquatic environments. Nearly 350,000 visitors from around the world experience Mote Aquarium each year.

It's a really cool aquarium/laboratory for anyone who loves the sea. It's a bit of a walk from the first building to the second, but it's pretty safe and nothing unmanageable if you're willing to make the short trip. The bird rehabilitation exhibit is a few dollars extra, but it's definitely worth it for older/quieter kids. The gift shop prices are pretty low, too, so you can pick up a little pencil or something to remember your trip. It's a really good place to learn about the ocean, too, from the shark feeding show to the windows into the laboratory. You should go there, and support them.

The staff is always friendly, the exhibits are always informative and well maintained. This is a great place to bring your inquisitive little ones to teach them about the marine ecosystem that is such a prevalent factor in Florida life. I grew up coming to Mote Marine 20+ years ago, and I am continuing the tradition by bringing my five year old here. I highly recommend every Floridian visit st least once, and bring your kids!

Fun place for the kids (yes, even the 47 year old kids...) Plenty of neat stuff to see... Make sure you check out both buildings... I do wish the descriptions of the displays were more robust... They really need to put more effort into it.  Other than that it is really nice.. Not huge but definitely good for a few hours.

We visited here after going to the Ringling museum, because we knew it was close.  I enjoyed it here so much.  It wasn't at all crowded, which means we should take our time to enjoy everything.  The two main buildings are across the street from each other.  Each one had parking and you could buy admission tickets from either, so it didn't matter which one you  visited first.  We also visited the Florida aquarium while we were on that side of the state.  The Florida aquarium was bigger, but I would go back to Mote over the Florida aquarium.  The Florida aquarium was so crowded it was hard to see and appreciate everything.

This aquarium has grown a lot in the last few years.  We love the touch tank, the turtles, manatee, and sting Ray's.  They have lots of smaller fish, sea horses, and jelly fish in smaller tanks.  This year they had a new exhibit of Art sculptures made out of plastic found in the ocean or washed up on shore.  Fun for all ages!
