Story

Mousetail Landing State Park
is a 1,247-acre park located on the east banks of the Tennessee River. This park offers for the public 11 miles of beautiful hiking/backpacking trails, 8 miles of adventurous mountain biking trails, a swim beach, picnic tables, playgrounds, meeting pavilions, and picturesque views from campsites in the enchanting forests by the Tennessee River.
The park has an abundance of wildlife, such
as deer, turkey, raccoon, fox, beaver, coyote, as well as many species of birds for the amateur photographer.
The park received its name from tanneries in the area. The first tannery was started in the 1800’s. When one of its storage buildings caught fire the exodus of rats was so great it got the name Rattail Landing. Shortly after this
a second tannery was established in the area with a general store, post office, and shipping point on the Tennessee River. Being smaller than Rattail Landing they called it Mousetail Landing.

Reviews
My stay was in August of 2017 and I'm long overdue to write a review of this beautiful and well-maintained park. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the park has some great amenities. The terrain includes plenty of hills and will give you a workout if you decide to walk or hike much, but those features add to the scenery. Because of the location, it's very quiet here and cell service is only reliable from higher elevations within the park. Perryville is a small town a few minutes drive from the park if you need groceries, supplies or a bite to eat. The Cedar Grove Iron Furnace is Civil War era landmark about 12 miles from the park and makes for an interesting day-trip down some winding backroads. After only one stay, Mousetail Landing is on my list of favorite spots for a quiet getaway.

Beautiful and peaceful!! Better have strong truck/engine, as has a very steep hill to get to camping spots!! But great place to stay/visit!!

Very nice State Park. Stayed two nights in campground. Granddaughter enjoyed the playground. We relaxed around the campfire. Very peaceful. Rangers were very helpful. Will return.
