My 9 month old granddaughter had major surgery on Monday October 30. From the time we entered the facility until she went home the next day we were treated with the utmost care and compassion. I am so bad with names but everyone in the surgery team recovery and on 7A was wonderful. They kept us informed every hour while she was in surgery. In pre op we had the best counselor with us. Everything was explained so we knew exactly what to expect. The nurses on the floor are amazing. They took such good care if our sweet miss. I have nothing but praises for this outstanding facility and caregivers. Thank you so much for everything

Outstanding knowledgeable staff...security, nurses, doctors, even the staff in the cafeteria at 2am when you just need a cup of coffee to get through a long stressful night. Thank you for helping our 3 year old daughter, you are all truly amazing in every way!

The worst children's hostipal. If you have any other choice do not take your child here. My 2 year old son broke his femur in 3 places at 10:00 a.m and was driven there by ambulance from another hospital at 4:00 on a Sunday. (They were notified he was on the way) They said the anesthesia dr leaves early so they cannot do anything until the morning and as long as there are no emergency calls. They made a 2 year old wait 24 hours in constant pain with a broken femur. How is that possible? 3rd world medical treatment. They needed to have him put in a cast when he arrived. Took an hour for a dr to even see him when he arrived. After speaking to a nurse they do NOT consider that an emergency. Unreal. Pray you never have to take your child there. Ever.

As a mother of six and a pediatric nurse for 21 years at a REAL children's hospital, I am not impressed. Get with the times, MUSC. My newborn son was re admitted for elevated bilirubin as a direct result of mismanagement and lack of communication with the residents. Family centered care is a completely foreign concept here. One parent allowed to stay at bedside, no parents allowed to stay at all in the ICU. No privacy in the ICU, beds see rated by curtains. That is an infection control nightmare, and a HIPPA nightmare as well. The 1980s called and they want their hospital rooms back. They don't validate parking, even when you have traveled across the state to be with your child. They do not provideal meals or snacks for parents, even when you're and breastfeeding mom who is the soul food source for your infant, their patient, and are unable to leave because of that. The prices in the cafeteria are beyond ridiculous. Look to spend around 30 dollars per day to eat, as well as 6 dollars per day to park if you get the discount. The hospital is old and it shows. Not a lot of pride taken in the appearance of things. Walls and floors are banged and scratched up. It's a state hospital and it for sure shows. My own care was mismanaged as well post party and only the fact that I pay attention to my own care saved me from a bad situation. I will do anything I can to avoid ever bringing my kids or myself here again.

We brought our 2 month old son in a few weeks ago because he has an airway defect (Laryngomalacia) and was struggling very hard to breathe ... in the ER, his oxygen levels were a little low and they admitted us to the children's hospital... first, our room was disgusting. The shower was clogged and filled with an inch and half of standing nasty water. Nothing seemed clean. Also, there was no couch or pullout bed or anything for parents to sleep on. Parents obviously need to stay with their infant. All that our room had was literally a bench. Once we were admitted, they did an X-ray of my sons chest- they came back and told us that is showed he had pneumonia ( he did not have any fever). They treated him all night with IV antibiotics for pneumonia. BTW- it took over an hour, five nurses, and six sticks before they were able to get his IV in... while my son was screaming and gasping for air the entire time. The next morning they did another chest X-ray- they then came back in and told us that he DID NOT have pneumonia and the spot they were originally seeing was actually just a sticker that was left on his chest during the first scan. He was treated all night long for this for no reason... upon being told this and spending a night being treated for nothing, we were discharged with no real answers and just told to follow up with pediatrician. 5 weeks later and my son will be having surgery tomorrow for the airway issue they ignored. We brought him here because we have heard only great things about MUSC and especially their Children's department but we were very disappointed.
