Fun little tour. We thought the items were rather new for a museum. One of the rooms was nothing but dioramas and toys. Tell me: what does mecha toys have to do with folk art?

This museum is very interesting. I think you might need a couple days to see it all.

the LARGEST! permanent folk art collection in the world...100,000 items strong. all thanks to the tireless efforts of eccentric collecters, Alexander & Susan Girard. connections to Herman Miller, and the Eames brothers. how ya' like me now design afficionado's? this place never fails to impress. always dynamic travelling exhibits, of course. pack ya some lunch, this could take all day...

The Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe has the best examples of folk art in the US. Admission is $12 for adults, Kids 16 & under are free. Located on Museum Hill, you can hit several major exhibitions in one day...and there's definitely plenty to see for more than 1 day. I particularly enjoyed the Flamenco exhibit while we were here this time - there was a flamenco guitar concert in the middle of the day. In the front room, Tibetan Monks were beginning an intricate mandala. Definitely a LOT of bang for your buck! Wonderful for children - my teens had no problem spending 2+ hours in here and I felt they really saw things that opened their perspectives.

Holy smokes! This place is unreal. And the location is convenient - away from the hectic Plaza. This art museum is a must see. It is clear after exploring the museum for two hours that the curators know what folk art is and how to tell a story with it.
