neighborhood pharmacy from 80s/90s frozen in time--and that suits me just fine.

i needed to get my vision tested for the driver's license online renewal. New York City Pharmacy is one of the places you can get your vision tested for online renewals. tell the cashier your want your vision tested for drivers license renewal. you read a chart from two different distances. you pay $5 in cash. the pharmacy uploads your test results to the DMV, and within a few hours you can renew your license online.

here's what's awesome--this medium-ish pharmacy charges far less than any traditional eye place that is NY DMV approved. in fact, looking at the Yelp reviews. the $5 charge has stayed the same for quite a while. it is super-quick and you don't need an appointment just walk in.

the pharmacy itself is an older looking pharmacy from the interior. it's clean, everything is well-organized, and isn't cramped. the feel is definitely from a decades long gone. i like that old NYC feel. the actual pharmacy is in the back. the aisles are filled with different wellness items,  OTC meds, and other standard drugstore offerings. the front has more convenience items candy, snacks, and soft beverages.

the service? superfriendly and chill.

at least 10 customers walked through while i waited to take my eyetest. i'd say the pharmacy staff knew them by face and name...which is an old-school that is awesome and proves that great service builds customer loyalty. so yeah CVS, Duane Reade, etc. dominate the landscape, but thankfully neighborhood pharmacies do still exist.

I never knew what a wonderful thing a real neighborhood pharmacy  could be til Ali and his family opened this place. Never thought I'd ever say, "I love my pharmacist"!

This is a great neighborhood resource for residents of the East Village.
