Mission

Since the organization’s founding by Bette Midler in 1995, NYRP has achieved dramatic results by fortifying social and environmental resilience in under-resourced communities throughout New York City. NYRP staff, AmeriCorps members and community volunteers have planted hundreds of thousands of trees, shrubs and flowers to support the restoration of our city’s parks and community gardens; and removed over 2,000 tons of garbage from the City’s open space. In 1999, Midler and NYRP saved 114 community gardens from commercial development and established the New York Garden Trust to ensure NYRP’s precious plots of land remain public gardens in perpetuity.

NYRP is also responsible for transforming an illegal dumping ground along the Harlem River into Sherman Creek Park, and building the adjacent Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse – the first floating boathouse on the river in over 100 years. At Sherman Creek and in NYRP’s community gardens, New Yorkers are being introduced everyday to the importance of green space in urban neighborhoods. In fact, NYRP’s environmental educational programs and community events currently serve thousands of New York City families, educators and at-risk youth.

In partnership with national and community-based organizations, NYRP and its growing membership work every day to revitalize, support and activate New York City’s green spaces.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE ANYTHING TO NYRP. THEY WASTE MONEY, ALL SENIOR STAFF IS PAID AS IF THEY WORK ON WALL STREET. NO WONDER THEY ARE ALWAYS BEGGING FOR MONEY. LET BETTE PAY, SHE IS WORTH MILLIONS BUT GIVES HARDLY ANYTHING TO THE ORGANIZATION. ALL THE PICTURE OF HER WORKING ON THE WEBPAGE ARE ALL STAGED. SHE DOES NO LABOR AND I KNOW PEOPLE AT THE PHOTO SHOOTS WHO SAY SHE COMES IN, PUTS ON GLOVES, RUBS DIRT ON HERSELF, TAKES PICTURES AND JUMPS BACK INTO HER LIMO.
