My nana was a resident at this nursing home for about 8 years and she just recently passed away. All I’m going to leave here is that instead of calling and speaking to my mother about my nanas passing a voicemail was left on her phone with that information at 1am, for her to wake up to. Instead of letting us know the night before that she was deteriorating more and more n the time was coming, because they knew, she was in palliative care, this is what they do. We could’ve been there by her side
My family was shocked with the poor management of this facility. After six months in Parkwood Hospital our dad became a resident of this facility. Within the first hour of his arrival, the assigned resident doctor, Dr. Mawji, prescribed and administered a heavy narcotic that our dad had never been on, or required. Worse yet, he did so without family consent, and when we attempted to hold him accountable, the Doctor soon got caught in his own lies, suggesting his nurse got consent, when she did not, followed by their Executive Director attempting to cover up for him. We terminated him as the doctor. The Executive Director has been subsequently terminated also, and this facility has been under investigation and the subject of media scrutiny many times. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better for us. The expensive hearing aids that our father was prescribed to require prior to residing here were determined by the nurses not to be required, and were stored behind their station, leaving our loved one without the ability to properly hear each and every day. Too much work to charge them nightly apparently. Our dad is now passed so we share our experiences with the hope that no one experiences the same, and that some government agency acts on their inappropriate conduct. We requested a detailed list of all administered medications from the Interim Director, and that was ignored, and to date we have never received this. When we went to remove his personal effects from his room, many of the valuable items were missing, as if someone had already gone "shopping". The room was nothing short of filthy. Appeared it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I took photos, as I could not believe my eyes. Especially at the tail end of a pandemic when cleanliness was supposedly paramount. Overall, so disappointed that St. Joseph's Health allows this to happen and supports the management of what we affectionately now refer to as "Mount Hopeless".
My Mother was a resident at Mount Hope for 3.5 years. The staff were caring, kind and willing to listen. Long term care is not without its challenges, and the work load for staff members is high. Despite these challenges, our Mother was treated with respect, dignity and love.
I would give more but the recent experience of retreaving my father's personal effects after his passing has been very difficult. They took good care of my father but he has recently passed away. I have tried numerous times to contact them. Most times not getting an answer when call is switched to the ward. A man finally answered and said he would look into it and call me back. No one has called. I just want to know where to go to get my father's things.
Our mom has lived in long term care for almost four years - we are very thankful that she is at Mount Hope. There is a strong, authentic and very loving commitment to the residents here by front-line and supporting team members. There is a generosity and a kindness - a resident focus, a loving and respectful attitude which is a wonderful thing to witness. Long Term Care like any long-term relationship or commitment is not an easy road to walk - it involves tough choices and conflicting priorities. Our family, on behalf of our mom, is very grateful for the commitment which St Josephs Healthcare demonstrates so clearly - in large and small ways - to the Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care.
Friend of mine has a mother who 'survived' in that place. She has a collection of obvious neglect and disregard for her mother's health she could show you. Shame. Wish I could give it a 0 star.
Great staff and awesome place for your loved ones
Great dentist clinic for seniors.
