One of 11 US Air Force field museums, the Peterson Museum's mission is to preserve and portray the rich aviation and space history of Colorado Springs and Peterson Air Force Base. It is located within an 8.3 acre Colorado State Historic District.
Exhibits illustrate the World War II history of Peterson Army Air Base, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the US Air Force and US Army Air Defense Commands, and the Air Force Space Command. The Museum's collection includes seventeen aircraft and four missiles, representing weapon systems used by the US and Canada in the strategic defense of North America during the Cold War to the present day.
