Plato's Closet® is all about being fashion savvy and shopping smart. We specialize in gently used clothes and accessories for teen and twenty something girls and guys. All stores are independently owned franchises.

At Plato's Closet® you'll find a huge selection of trendy, designer styles as well as those every day basics you can't live without - all at up to 70% off mall retail prices!

Our stores buy and sell girls sizes 0/1 to 15/16 and guys size 28 to 38 waist. The gently used clothing and accessories that we buy are: top-name brands, cool, hip, trendy, and clean. Typically we buy items that have been in the retail stores within the past 12 to 18 months.

Our process is quick and easy:

1. Go through your overflowing closet
2. Bring in your cool stuff
3. Walk out with new cool stuff or $$$ in your pocket!

This place is good for a thrift store variety of clothes. They are a bit expensive for second hand clothes but still cheaper than the mall.  If you're looking to sell your clothes here don't expect to get much for your items. There is usually an hour or more wait time as well. This place is for 20 something and down. The youngest crowd other than Jr. High school. The have more women's stuff then men's but shoes for both, hats, clothes, purses and makeup. A little jewelry as well. I don't know of any coupons or discounts that you could use here.

Compared to the thrift stores, prices are higher.  The selection at the consignment store on McHenry is more to my tastes.  I did find a nice pair of running tights with a zipper pocket for $10.  For me, it's not worth the drive to get here.

Love it.  But the racks are so over packed it makes it extremely difficult to shop. I wish they would move to a bigger location and get a few more racks for all the stuff or at least not overly stock them.

I have brought in items many times that were not purchased. However, just because I think they are trendy and in great condition doesn't mean that they are what the store is currently looking for. They focus on trendy pieces for young adults so keep that in mind, look at their instagram page or call ahead to ask what they are cutrently in need of. Brands are really important but so is style, I now have a better knowledge of what they look for and have had success selling my gently used clothes so don't get mad and do a little bit of research.

Reading all the reviews on here makes me feel that I wasn't treated any different. I went in with 2 full bags and a luggage full of great quality good brand names, no rips no holes, nice high heals and accessories. Trending of course and while the two young man working the cash register went through my items I started to look around and comparing my stuff to what they sell in the store and prices... I've noticed a lot of Wal-Mart and target items were sold there for almost new prices, like most of the reviews here say... "my items weren't trending enough for the style of the shop" like they described, and to top it all of, one of the young man dared to classify me as old. They only took 3 items and offered me $6 dollars. It makes think that is more of a personal taste of the person sorting your items than varity of choices for the customers. I don't recommend your shop to anyone and suggest you get better appraisers.
