Love this Powell's, although perhaps not as much as the Burnside location. The selection here is still very large, and they'll but your used books. The small cafe is pleasant, and the store is lively. The outdoor book section is my favorite, although I like the gift section, too. There are some very funny--but inappropriate for children--gifts. Staff is very friendly. Other customers are polite.

Portland's classic bookstore, but in a smaller size. It's like Mini-Me but less biting. No but really... This location is bigger than it looks with an extensive literature section, non-fiction, with lots of used books, adjoining coffee shop, and a great kids area.  Parking can be hard to find, but drive around a couple of times and you'll find something. Selling books? You can try parking up front in the loading and unloading zone. Check out the rest of Hawthorne for some great used clothes shops, restaurants, and more. Take your time in this great spot!

Powell's is, well, Powell's. They have been selling books for decades and do it as well as anyone out there. 

Today I was selling books at Powell's on Hawthorne, one of their satellite stores. As always, the buyers were quick and professional. They knew what they needed, rejected what were frankly books I didn't expect them to take. They offered just enough more in trade that I didn't take cash. 

As always, a great experience.

Don't go into the home and garden Powell's unless you have an awful lot of expendable cash. There are so many fun things to buy here. Great place to find fun presents for others, but make sure to pick up something for yourself while you are at it.

Such a fun place to visit. A warm and cozy atmosphere with dark wood stained shelves and tables. They have a lot of new and old books including a whole dedicated section for kids--I believe there was a children's book club meeting/discussion while I was there. Toward the front, in a separate section, included a cafe that I have yet to visit. I will be updating this as I explore this awesome bookstore in the future!
