Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after a soccer tournament. Place was packed. It's a little small on the inside, but luckily they have outdoor seating. It's not a traditional sit down and look at the menu type place. You have to order before getting your table. My advice is have someone go up and get a menu so you can decide on your meal while waiting in line. Crab cakes were good but different. Almost like a tuna fish consistency on the inside, then deep fried. They were not terrible, but not flakey fish. Lots of breading on the inside. The cheese sticks were good. Overall, would visit again
It's a neighborhood style old hole in the wall but the food is fresh and tasty. Good selecting of local beers but man, that fryer! Everything was tasty and fresh. The oysters were perfectly cooked and the crawfish spot on! We'll be back!Food: 5/5
This is a casual restaurant. Order at the counter and the server will bring food to your table. Great service from the minute I entered the door. Server was very friendly and recommended different sauces for my oyster po'boy. The po'boy with fried oyster was delicious. Fried perfectly, crunch on outside and not greasy at all. Oh, no line and no waiting for tables. Love that. It did start to get crowded as I was leaving though.
First: the staff is very friendly. They gave advice on what to eat, and helped me out with table service even though this isn't that kinda place. Total southern hospitality vibe. Being from California, the sweetness is abundant and I left with major tooth decay insert sarcasm. I got Mahi Mahi tacos w fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were perfect - thick cut, thin batter. The tacos would have been ideal however I'm not a fan of flour tortillas... it's a foreign concept to latinos lol. But otherwise, all delish. My family devoured the sweet treats I brought them. Personally I find pecan pie disgusting but we really all enjoyed the mini pecan pie! A first for me. I even had a great conversation with a local couple eating outside near me. Can't wait to come back and try something new next time!
This was our first time here. Very busy place but very efficient. It was kinda different to go up and order at the register 1st, be given a big number and cups and go find a place. We got the Pelican Burger. It was cooked just right, you put the condiments on it yourself at the table and dig in to it and the fries that come with it. I apologize for the picture, we were starving. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is very fast at picking up empty plates without rushing you and with the crowd Old Mandeville draws, there's plenty of great people watching that can go on I know I'm weird lol. Highly recommended!
Food was great, though the portion size was rather lacking. $18 for 8 oysters + fries seems to be a little high compared to other seafood sports. Aside from that, the food here is constantly good and the location is perfect.Food: 4/5
Love this place!! The service was nice and quick!! The food was super tasty. They have a huge selection to choose from as well. Rusty Pelican in Mandeville is very close to the lakefront if you wanted to take in more sights or catch the beautiful sunset afterwards. Perfect spot for date night!! #datenightideas #mandeville #rustypelican
Great burger, nice atmosphere, It's kind of both in a high touristy area and not... It's in a neighborhood... But it's a neighborhood that's screaming "Hey Tourists, look at us!". Not knocking it... Just know this isn't a hidden gem... But it is a gem. Great burgers, best I've had since moving here. The place can fill up quickly but there is outdoor dining, if sweating something you enjoy doing while you eat. There's a bar if the sweating gets out of control. Parking: On da street, across da street, in da back, or down da street... Take your pick... Or you can be one of "THOSE" types and park at the Lake and *Shudder* walk to it. Wheelchair accessibility: Yup, it's there.... Also fun to roll hot wheels down it too.
We love to get out and explore. We were headed to Abita Brewing where they brew the best Root Beer and decided to stop in for lunch here. Best decision ever. We both agree this is the best fried shrimp we have had on this trip. So light and delicious! The fried mushrooms, catfish and seafood Gumbo were also perfection. You walk in, order, find a table and they bring it to you. You get your own drinks and refills at the drink station. There is always someone nearby to help if you need something. They have additional seating on their side porch. They also have some picnic table across the street one covered you can sit at. At that Pavillion, they have a dog watering station. It is islocated in the neighborhood setting of historic Old Mandeville. If you ever find yourself anywhere close to this area, you must try it.
Hubs has the seafood platter and loved it. I had the Mahi gras....pretty tasty. Atmosphere was great! Parking: Minimal parking areas beside the restaurant as well as across from the restaurant. Street parking as well. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp on side of restaurant for ease of accessibility. However, once inside, things get tight.
