One of the best kept secrets of the Forest Park area of St Louis. The Art Museum is free with the exception of traveling exhibits as is the parking unless you park "inside" the parking garage. There are representative works of all the famous and well known artists to include Picasso's "Water Lilies". Several pieces by Rembrandt and Monet as well. There are entire collections going back to the pre-dynastic period of Egypt, an armory from the middle ages up to the late Renaissance, and art from around the world. Chinese, Japanese, Pacific islands, Africa, Asia, Australia, Native America, Europe, and more. The lighting and display of each theme and period is controlled to emphasize the artwork. It's quiet and rarely busy. There is both a Cafe and a restaurant inside the museum. Some rooms are close while others are grand. Seating is available everywhere particularly in the larger galleries. I could visit this museum every other day for four hours at a stretch. Time tends to stand still here. I recommend checking your time or you may be here longer than you expected.

One of the finest museums of art I have been to in the Midwest. They have a magnificent selection of ceramics and sculpture as well as paintings and drawings from many different periods. In addition they have a lovely gift shop and Cafe. One of the wonderful thing about the museums in St Louis area is that they are part of the parks and rec educational Initiative Program so the admission is free! And parking is free! However parking can be difficult it's best if you have someone with disabilities or mobility issues to drop them off at the main entrance and then go find a parking spot. Once inside they do have wheelchairs available if need be and elevators as well.

Amazing spot that should not be missed. It's extremely easy to spend a couple hours here taking in all the exhibits and the wide ranging exhibitions by a wide variety of artists. The admission price is completely free and it almost navigates like a maze being so large. There is something here that everyone will like.

Free? Art Museum? Sounded great and is! The collection they have is massive. Only went once and made it only halfway through. Definitely need to go back and checkout the rest of the exhibits! And staff is friendly!

Its an amazing place. Unfortunately I did not do my research, and the day we went, it wasn't open. However, the walk around the park was an unexpected plus for our trip, especially in the fall with all the leaves changing colors. I highly recommend going mid-October!
