This home rates low in historic value because of the somewhat forced association with renown Ragtime composer Scott Joplin. He rented this home for two years (1901-03) and it was thought he wrote "The Entertainer" here, for which there is little reliable evidence to support the assertion. Making note of this house is akin to saying "George Washington slept here." Joplin was an enormous contributor to American music, with Rag influencing almost all subsequent American music. But this house has little to do with it.

I thought this would be a cool place because I'm a music nerd, however I don't think it's worth the cost. The only connection of this location to Scott Joplin is his name on the records for having lived there. They have done a good job restoring the house and some of the information about the local geography is interesting, however I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. The coolest part was the player piano, you can listen to some Jopin tunes on their antique player piano. Save your $6/person :(

Scott Joplin wrote and played great music back in the early 1900's. His house shows how he lived when in St. Louis. And there are free monthly ragtime events at the house. This is a great place to learn about St. Louis history and a great form of music.

Amazing. Well maintained. Need more markers, monuments, tributes to black history like this one.
