Shining Mountain Golf Course & Event Center

About

Shining Mountain Golf Course is the hidden gem of Colorado Golf. Our affordable green fees, along with our superior atmosphere are second to none.

Story

What is commonly known today as Pikes Peak was originally named "Shining Mountain" by the Ute Native Americans because of how brightly the sun reflected off of the snow. Minutes from the idyllic town of Woodland Park, Colorado; Shining Mountain is sure to be considered a jewel in the Rocky Mountain state. Woodland Park is nestled among the pines of the Pike National Forest and with over 300 days of sunshine, we enjoy comfortable summers and mild winters. Located at nearly 8500 feet above sea level, this is why we are called "The City Above the Clouds".

The course is 6,478 yards from the championship tees with a par of 70. The course rating is 71.6 and has a slope rating of 136 on bluegrass. The seasons here are mild and the views spectacular, which makes this a must play for your golfing pleasure.

I believe this was the 8th year that we had played this great course. Do to the extreme amount of rain course was very wet and sand traps full of water. Nothing can be done about that. All 4 of us missed the do not drive on fairway sign right by the cashier sign. We must be blind our fault. We were informed of this shortly after starting but wondered why other golfers were seen driving on fairways. On Sunday, we again missed the sign but as we were on tee box seen golfers in front of us on fairways. We reached hole number 4 and a golfer in our 4 some hit his drive on north side of fairway and he started crossing fairway on 90 degree angle and person on fairway mower on 4 tee box hollered at him and said something not very professional. This person also continued to mow on tee box while we were teeing off. This was mentioned to the Marshal that we seen on 5 tee box. He told us then fairways only. Young lady in beer cart we met on 5 green said she had seen other golfers driving in fairways. Understand course under new management and we missed Becky and her staff. Young people in club house were outstanding and very friendly. Days we were there was cooler than normal and wet and did not want to sit outside on deck to eat lunch. Felt a little out of place by sitting at tables with white table cloths set up for lunch. In past years, we have ate lunch at club house but did not this year. Must admit food we seen looked delicious. Maybe have plain old tables for golfers. Had a red draw and it was $6.50 and thought that was a little to much. Over all we had another good time playing golf and will be back. We will adjust our plans before getting there and not after we our there. Our fault for not seeing the very obvious sign posted saying do not drive on fairways.

One of the best disc golfing experiences I've had. The course it long and challenging which makes it really great to play. It's a great mix of both worlds of disc golf and regular golf. It was worth the 2 hour drive. I'll be back soon!

Great golf course...... Must play from fairways, some really subtle breaks of the greens...... Great views of Colorado mountains. Nice club house. Friendly people too. My home course is Hollydot in Colorado City. Our two groups had a great day. Thanks so much.

I just played this course 6/3/17. I'm around a 10 handicap and I played from the tips. I read several reviews before playing so my expectations weren't super high. I was blown away at how nice the course conditions were. Don't understand some of the past reviews. It's up there w pine creek. Slightly better because holes are way cooler. If u play from the tips the course is even better because they have several elevated tee boxes. Like extremely elevated. Very lush fairways and greens esp for a mountain course. No dead spots on greens. Can't beat it for the money. It's very peaceful being in the mountains. Some of the holes are so secluded and really gives you that mountain course feel. The only knock I can have on this place is that they didn't rake the bunkers the morning I played. It had rained the night before so maybe they don't do it when that happens. Also I had booked a tee time thru their website for me and a buddy. Paid 20 percent down to book online. He came down w bronchitis and I couldn't get refunded the money for his spot. Management should fix that. So book via telephone. If u want to impress your golfing buddies take them here. It's worth the drive.
