Just a stone's throw from the banks of the Cumberland River stands the Sutton General Store. Built in the 1880, it continuously served the families of the Granville, Tennessee area until the 1970's.
The two story building's unique style features a saloon type balcony. Walking back in time is fun, interesting and educational. Our guest can enjoy a southern style meals featuring the finest in Tennessee Cooking.
Since April 2008, the Granville Museum has been proud to host "Sutton Ole Time Music Hour" at the Sutton General Store. Each Saturday night performances stream worldwide and is syndycated for radio stations in a similar style to the Grand Ole Opry.
Granville was the birthplace of Uncle Jimmy Thompson. He was the first performer on the Grand Ole Opry with the Solemn Judge George D. Hay. We have a special exhibit in the museum honoring them with recordings of the first show, a letter from the Grand Ole Opry, Henry Ford giving Thompson an award for performing for the President of the United States at Ford's home and much more.
