Tupelo Honey

About

Our Southern dishes & libations are served with a creative twist & a smile, & we serve our guests nothing that we wouldn’t want on our own supper table.

Story

Tupelo Honey Cafe first opened its doors in Asheville, NC in 2000. Considered one of the pioneers of Asheville's farm-to-table movement, we’ve continued to serve fresh, scratch-made Southern fare and put new twists on old Southern dishes and cocktails.

We’ve grown up from our humble beginnings as a single restaurant in the heart of Downtown Asheville and now have several locations across the Southeast. Each location not only continues the legacy of the original restaurant with creative, eclectic, imaginative food, but continues to foster a hometown feel through local art, local charitable outreach, local brews and responsibly sourced ingredients.

Our Chattanooga restaurant is the fifth Tupelo Honey location, which opened in 2013.

Excellent service from our waiter, Gabriel! He was very attentive and we never had our coffee cups empty for long. Pro tip: the shoo mercy sweet potato pancakes are DELICIOUS and DEFINITELY split-able. More than enough food for me and hubs. Did not get drinks or dessert this go round, but their options looked awesome. Bon Appetite!

This was our first time eating here, and it won't be our last. My girlfriend ordered the grilled pork loin, while I ordered the chicken fried steak. Unfortunately, they were out of the steak(apologetically I may add) and substituted fried chicken instead. Both were absolutely delicious! The manager came to the table to apologize for not having the steak(the deal they were running sold more than they expected). She offered us a free dessert, which we gladly took her up on. She didn't have to do this, but it made us feel good that they cared about their patrons satisfaction. All in all, this place is now on our go-to list of restaurants. Excellent food and service!!

Was very surprised at this place. Had lunch on a Friday, it was very quite. Excellent biscuits and preserves. Had the blackberry habenero pork burger and collards. Really great combination. They had homemade sodas and lemonades that were very good. For deserts they serve in small Mason jars, they were perfect.

OVERPRICED for mediocrity and that's generous! Arrived at about 2:45 p.m. on a Sunday. My wife and I were greeted by a smiling hostess and were told it would be a 15 minute wait. We took a seat on a bench across from the host stand about 5 feet away and waited patiently. While waiting another couple came in and two singles. All were seated fairly quickly. After about a 35 minute wait, a male host came by and asked why we weren't seated yet and we asked the same. Apparently the hostess had forgotten to get our name and just let it go. He got us seated immediately. While waiting we notice the menu was pricey but we thought perhaps it was worth the wait and price. We were wrong. I ordered a water (soft drinks were $3.25 minimum and were talking soft drinks here) and the shrimp and grits. $21.00 plus the waiter suggested Chorizo on top for $2.50 extra. Before the entrees arrived we were served two hard cold biscuits with some blueberry compote along with some real clover honey in a plastic bottle that was as sticky as fly paper. Nasty looking also. I will only speak to my entree. The cheese grits were dry and appeared to be slapped on the skillet plate sometime before the shrimp and Chorizo were added at the last minute. It was slightly warm. Throw a couple of slivers of toasted sour dough with some olive oil and you have a master piece? Hardly. Certainly not worth $23.50+ tax+ tip. BTW, the waiter was "friendly" but not in any sense attentive. A return trip will not be in our future.
