About

The Orientation Team here at UH is the name of an outstanding group of student leaders whose goal is to present their UH Pride to all prospective Coogs!

Mission

O-Team is a family comprised of a unique group of student who strive to successfully distinguish themselves on campus. We do this by making the choice to become and develop leaders. We aspire to go above and beyond our job qualifications to make each orientation a welcoming and motivational experience. We are the first UH friend every new student makes. As a liaison between UH and new students/families we begin their integration into the academic, social and cultural aspects of the UH community.

I transferred to UH after nearly 3 full years at a different university in Texas. When I went to orientation, I was told that it would take me 4 more years to graduate. No one seemed to care about my concerns. I had to file transfer credit petitions for classes I took that they didn't want to give me credit for. It took them 4 full months to reject both petitions. When I compared the syllabus from my old school to the syllabus here, it was nearly identical. They only want your money. They don't take care of and help their students. I was also forced to skip a semester from taking a certain class because of scheduling errors. I told my advisor and he pretty much said "That's too bad". They continue to delay my graduation in whatever way they can. I've emailed my advisor many times and been ignored if he doesn't know the answer. The only good thing is this is a good school form the program I am in.

UH's diversity is beautiful. You'll probably hear at least 3 different languages being spoken at once. Their security team does an excellent job at assuring the students' safety at ALL TIMES. They're not concerned about catching the students doing something they shouldn't be as long as they don't see it, they don't bother you. They're more concerned with non-students who roam campus for no particular good reason. They also take sexual assault situations very seriously. I remember walking into Cougar Village, and being cat called by a student, the security officer immediately approached me to offer help, and even assured me he could aid me in pressing charges. They want to make sure the students are content, and feel comfortable on campus. The people are kind and will spark a conversation with you randomly, super friendly, happy staff. UH Football games are fun to say the least. Thank you UH for an amazing college experience.

Parking is so bad I've just given up on paying for a pass. Little secret just park in visitor parking and lump all your classes together so you're only on campus a couple days. Love UofH aside from that but come on the university has millions build another freaking parking garage.

Part of the curriculum to graduate for certain programs requires you to complete an internship, particularly the CM. It is up to someone else to hire you to allow you to graduate. If you can't find one (which chances are you won't with hundreds of other applicants and limited spots) then you're stuck with a delay in graduation. For the price, i would just go to another school. I would if I could go back in time

Overall I pretty good solid university. Only thing to complain about is getting in the school itself. They keep asking for documents you already submitted. Plus make sure you talk to an advisor when it comes to your degree plan. They keep adding and dropping class every semester and you might end up taking a class that you don't even need.
