For a quick local stop in the heart of U District this is a great place. They have a strong selection of typical hardware store items. If you need specialty or wider selection, best pricing, etc... you're better set heading to a larger box store.

This place will bail you out when things go astray. Staff has been helpful in my experience when asked nicely.

A small store, but packed with everything you might need from a hardware store. The staff are all knowledgeable and courteous as I'd expect from a True Value location.

I shop here frequently. The staff is always friendly and they almost always have what I want.....at reasonable prices. Yesterday, I brought in an expensive heavy-duty stapler that had gotten jammed because we used the wrong size staples. The sales person at the front desk spent about ten minutes taking it apart and fishing out the jammed staples. "No charge," he said when I offered to pay him. "Happy to help."

The staff really know their stuff and were quite helpful as I found what I needed. It would have been nice if they could cut the lumber they sold to the size we needed though.
