The care and compassion we were shown over the weekend was hands down 100% genuine! They did everything they could in the tough situation with my little guy. We are truly blessed to have such a clean and caring hospital in Webster City!

Took my 3 year old to the ER for a high temp. We got in around 6 and weren't seen until around 7:15 (and that was after a couple went to the desk and asked if we were going to be seen soon). We get back to the room and around 7:45 he threw up after taking some medicine. I had to call my husband to bring a new pair of clothes for us. In the meantime my child had to sit in diaper with his blanket wrapped around him on me in a chair because they didn't replace the sheet on the bed that had puke on it. They finally run the test around 8 and we didn't get out until almost 9. I don't know if things weren't getting put in the computer but multiple nurses came in and did the same tests because they didn't know the other had already been in. The nurses were nice and the Doctor was as well but our overall experience was unpleasant to say the least.

The surgery staff was very caring during my colonoscopy screening, and answered questions during my procedure when asked. I received a letter explaining what my pathology results were and a follow up phone call asking if I was ok, and if I felt I needed any additional assistance the day after my colonoscopy, and even received some patient information on diverticulitis which I find most facilities do not do. Overall, I felt family practice needs to work on their bed side manner: My practitoner made several mistakes in documenting what medications/supplements I was taking. She did not check to see if the nurse had entered them into the EHR and prexisting conditions (diagnoses) from pull down menus did not match what I had said, or were not recorded at all, so my clinic documentation was inaccurate. The errors were compounded by my practitioner leaving the exam room 3-4 times to work in other patients which left me wondering if the documentation was accurate on the clinical note. I obtained copies of my records which backed up my suspicions. Also, my doctor/practitioner had taken x-rays of my knees and had ordered labs, and then did not report the results to me as required by law in a timely manner. Most test results are to be reported within 5-7 days after the patient is seen. There are a few exceptions to this rule one of which is cultures--they can take from 5-30 days when the final is returned and then reported. I ended up coming in 1 month and 7 days later when I had my pre-op visit with Dr. Grimm, and inquiring about test results with my FPC providers nurse when most facilities report results within 7 days for basic labs and x-rays. I would rate the surgery staff at 4 stars, but felt that FPC brought down the overall facility rating to 2 stars due to the errors in documentation and failure to report test results in a timely manner, 1 month 7 days is far too long to wait, in my view. SIDE NOTE: This facility charges cheaper rates for common surgical procedures than most CAH's around the state. I checked the Iowa Hospital Foundations Comparison Data to check pricing information which is a useful tool to decide where to have my procedure done and at a reasonable price. Do double check the Van Diest Medical Center website to see if they have contracted with your insurance company otherwise you will face substantial out-of-network charges. They routinely DO NOT contract out with HUMANA and this is not noted on their website. UPDATE: I recieved a call from Chris and Lisa (Clinic Manager and Patient Advocate) on 1/5/18 in the afternoon. The information in my original review was specific enough, in my opinion; however, they asked specifically what documentation was inaccurate, what diagnoses were missing, and what medications were missing, etc. I was also asked if the providers had failed to report the information. I reread my review and my point was that it was reported by a providers nurse AFTER I INITIATED CONTACT and spoke to my providers nurse (on the afternoon of my preop) which was 1 month and 7 days after I had been last seen. I was seen at FPC twice, my first visit was in September, the second in October of 2017. Reporting results of tests to patients in a timely manner is REQUIRED BY LAW. Most facilities report basic tests within 5-7 days of a patient being seen and that's the point. More than 1 month is unacceptable in my veiw. While I appreciate VDMC diligence in wanting to improve the process to get things accurate and timely or improve processes, calling a patient and asking what specific information was inaccurate, missing, etc. violates patient/doctor confidentiality and is a direct violation of the Health Insurance Accountability and Portability Act of 1997 (HIPPA). Patients have the right to report HIPPA breaches directly to the Department of Health and Human Services. The proper way to handle this situation is to ask the patient to complete and return a Request To Amend Documentation form. Doing so will eliminate the chance of breaching confidentiality laws.
