This was the first Civil War National Monument I had ever been to. To be on a battlefield where so many men were put down was not easy for me. Yes American history, yes a park to bring your kids, its a delight to see the perfect roads in this park, very well kept, with secluded places to pay your respects, as well as explore trails that lead to actual battle sites that have been protected since the battle. Its hard to imagine a battle here, everything is well forested and thick undergrowth, peaceful. The statues and memorials are definitely worth seeing, and you can see that in the 1930's time and resources were set aside to make this park. I paid the $12 and was able to come back the next day. It's very peaceful as you would expect a Battle of Vicksburg memorial to be.

Great information and informative, but each and every worker who works at the place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. The cemetery and the drive through tour are so overgrown and unmaintained that couldn't hardly get to most of the monuments and viewing areas it's just sad. The parks have not been maintained for years and show what government are good for and that absolutely nothing but drawing a paycheck. If this was a cemetery for the loved ones of the park people that work here they would be up in arms and throwing massive fits of what this place has become, but because they don't care and doesn't mean anything to them what does it matter. Each and every one of you working here now and in the past should be ashamed and be fired for the lack of respect you have shown this great place and courageous men who fought and died on both sides fighting for what they believe in and deserve better than what you are showing.

Loved it!!! The park is amazing. So informative!!! You can't erase history, but you can learn from it. All civil war monuments need to stay where they are!!! I am from the south and those men fought for us. 💖💖😍

This is a great historical park. We were saddened that the confederate portion was shut down. This is history. Vicksburg was an important part of the Confederate forces. Changing this park does not change history. We learn from history.

We ran from hurricane Irma to Vicksburg. The rangers went above and beyond with helping us navigate the park AND give us amazing suggestions on how to continue to enjoy NPS and civil war parks. The park is gorgeous and we enjoyed wandering around with two large dogs! Thank you to the rangers! You guys went above and beyond for us. We appreciate it more than you know! Off to Shiloh!
