The W. H. Over Museum was founded in 1883 by an act of the South Dakota Legislature.
The Museum's mission: To collect, preserve, document, exhibit, research, study and interpret objects relating to natural and cultural history, primarily of South Dakota; and to provide interpretive exhibitions, educational programs, publications and other appropriate means of conveying an understanding and appreciation of this region.
Products are offered through the W. H. Over Museum Gift Shop. Proceeds gained from museum gift shop sales directly benefits Native American artists as well as supporting the museum's non-profit day to day needs.
