This hospital is a true dichotomy. We had to BEG to see an actual doctor as they rotate with other personnel. We did not see a lung specialist until day 9, with my 90 year old father getting worse and worse. They did not admit he'd be better off in Portland until he was far too involved. Although almost totally sedentary, they did nothing to prevent blood clots for over a week. When they FINALLY did an mri he was full of clots and they had travelled to his lungs. He died 3 days after being transferred to Maine Med. I fully believe had we been more proactive (both medical staff and family) he may have survived. Having said that, the nurses on the 2nd floor were totally amazing. They were SO kind and patient to all of us. I honestly felt they cared for him as though he were their family. They constantly reassured him and were endlessly compassionate and understanding. He received attention 24/7 and absolutely loved all of them. I do not have the words to express what a fantastic group of professional they are. In spite of the end result, we were so blessed by them .

Horrible! They sent us to penbay or said we could wait for another couple of hours while observing my mother in law barely breathing. She died a few days later. Also, the months prior to her death they even had an x-ray showing a fist-sized tumor in her lungs. They decided to apparently ignore this and kept calling it TMJ and allergies.

If I could give this review zero stars I would. The nerve of the Emergency Room staff, to treat a patient who is all alone, in a great deal of pain, to have a nurse come in to where my family member was to tell her that "You're being too loud, everyone can hear you, you need to stop". Whoever that nurse is, deserves to be fired---truly she has no bedside manor. Turns out that my family member had an untreated kidney stone, and the pain was excruciating. My relative didn't let the nurse get away with it, she made sure to tell her that she didn't like the way that nurse was treating her. No one should have to explain themselves when they are in pain and they need assistance. I have called the ER to complain, I also will be filing a formal complaint to make sure that this doesn't continue. This is the reputation that this emergency room has, snooty doctors, rude nurses that don't give a care in the world, and they all act like patients are faking. SHAME ON YOU ALL. I myself have been a patient there as well and they simply don't care about you at all. The events that transpired today in regards to my family member is the last straw. I don't recommend this hospital to ANYONE.

I am proud to be a member of Waldo County Hospital medical staff, and trust my colleagues implicitly. I work as a pediatrician at Belfast Pediatrics, an independent practice. I have also had to use the Emergency Room myself on a few occasions and found the care to be excellent and thorough despite very difficult circumstances. The place keeps winning awards for 'best small hospital,' it's a gem of a resource in tiny Belfast.

My husband visited the ER on Thursday evening in a blizzard with excruciating pain in his side. There was only two other patients at the time. They were very slow, and very quick to prescribe pain medicine without really having a good grasp on the situation. If they spent more time taking care of their patients, rather than gossiping amongst themselves regarding other patients, perhaps the care might be better. This place is a horrendous!!!
